VOTING DEADLINE IS MAY 2 2011, 15:00 UTC

Voting rules:
  • ZPC-14 has one simple rule; submit a preset for Zebra2 that would usually get filed under 'Keys'. In the Zebra factory library it includes those patches that Howard calls 'Pianoids' and 'Orgones'.
  • All votes are appreciated, and however one decides which patches stand out is the right way. A little feedback explaining votes is very welcome as well, just keep it short and to the point.
  • The presets have not been normalized and are presented to you as they were submitted. It's up to you, the voters, to decide if a preset appeals to you (clipping, too quiet, or just right).
  • Results will be tabulated one week from the date of this post when the poll stops running.
  • The preset awarded the most overall points wins. Best of luck to all the entrants!
Patch authors:
Please post your (numbered) place selections from this set in this thread. Please no hinting or saying which preset(s) are yours. Let's keep it anonymous until voting is closed. As a patch author you must vote, and you are not allowed to vote for your own preset(s)!

Everyone else:
Anyone is welcome to vote and if you wish to do so, please post your (numbered) place selections from this set in this thread.

Point Value:
Points are awarded by voters in the following manner:
  1. 1st Place -> 3 points
  2. 2nd Place -> 2 points
  3. 3rd Place -> 1 points
Votes by patch authors and everyone else are weighed equally.

Results:
The winning patch author will receive their choice of 1 free u-he NFR (not for resale) software product.

Thanks once again to bmrzycki for so efficiently organizing this end of the contest.

Just had a quick listen to the submissions and voting is going to be difficult! There's some really well crafted patches in there. Imo one of the best ZPCs yet. 8)

Btw, it may be my getting confused by British Summer Time, but did this thread appear at 8:00 am UTC-6 (i.e. 2 hours before the deadline for subs)?

1 hour early. I had to leave for work. :) I think we should swtich it to 14:00 UTC from now on.

Righty-ho :) Another bunch of excellent patches :) Funny only 2nd time i've entered for this patch comp, but already I have discovered I can never find a pen when I need one...

Anyway, here are my votes,

1st - Harpsigan
2nd - Zynthetix Pianoid
3rd - Organ Freeman

lol @ Organ Freeman for a name, cool :) I get the feeling this one gonna go down to the wire. Best of luck to all :D
Don't trust those with words of weakness, they are the most aggressive

Had a quick check out as well... some cool stuff.
Gonna check them in full detail after sleep.

There are few contestants.. why is that? :) This should be something for everybody in the u-he community!

Post

1st - Moonshine
2nd - Cigarette Burnt 71
3rd - Sparkle Keys

I especially liked the X/Y pads on Moonshine.

With these contests it seems that the more specific the theme the less people take part - which is why I wasn't keen on the 'Piano' idea (and I think rightly so, on this evidence).

I guess 'keys' just wasn't to many people's taste - too difficult or, more likely, too safe/boring.

Choosing themes is a difficult balancing act - do we go all out for participation and just have a freestyle contest every month? I reckon that would get stale pretty quick. The alternative is to continue as we have done so far and mix things up from month to month - some freestyle, some open to interpretation (ie not far off freestyle), and some specific and just accept that for the latter numbers will be down.

Yes, it's worth mentioning that a number of the patches make use of the XY pads - so people might want to check for this when auditioning. :wink:

I would like to see a choir/voice pads competition. Really love those PPG and Prophet VS like voices. And imagine what you can do with those waves in Zebra!

Assigned XY pads and a little info on a patch is always welcome.
Ok, I think I found my three favourite patches:

1st - Harpentyne
2nd - Moonshine
3rd - dreamy

Thought there would be more contestants. But I must admit that I've been lazy for a long time. Just lurking here on KVR. This is the first time I take part in a contest.

1st. Zynthetix Pianoid - a well programmed, playable patch, the XY's were nicely thought out (though I think OSC3 needed sync to be turned on for XY2 to work?) and it had a pleasant, if slightly woolly, timbre.

2nd. DX Clavotron - a fairly simple patch, the XY assignments add a great deal of value.

3rd. Grand Piano Z3 - Obviously a lot of work went into this and it does sound distinctly piano-ish and, up until the point at which my cpu throws in the towel, it plays nicely too! Would probably have been my number one if it had used half the modules.

EDIT: Added some comments.

I'd be up for that, however, I have a feeling that it would be difficult to get many more people interested in the idea.

1.Moonshine- I think it's one of the most brilliantly created patches I've ever heard out of all the Zebra competitions.
2.Zynthetix Pianoid
