Is there a TyrellN6 bug report thread somewhere? I've found that in poly mode, when you stack 2 voices and you're using a long attack, after the synth runs out of voices (8?) the attack is fast instead of respecting the envelope. I understand that the oldest notes should disappear instantaneously, but shouldn't new ones still have the slow attack?

I'm fascinated by this "simple" synth too

That's not a bug, it's a feature!Breeze wrote:I'm fascinated by this "simple" synth too

Like in about all analogue synths, the envelope trigger starts the envelope "from where it was". This behaviour is particularly known from monosynths (Minimoog, Sh-1, ARP 2600 etc.) but it's also apparent in polyphonic synths such as the Roland Juno and Jupiter series.
The main culprit as to why almost nobody does that in digital synths anymore is Velocity. Because if the envelope is scaled by Velocity, you get a step instead of a smooth transition. Hence all the hustle and bustle with note stealing and big polyphony.
In TyrellN6 (like in PolyAna) the envelopes run smooth and continuous, no matter how big the difference in Velocity. However, while PolyAna always goes into Attack phase, TyrellN6 will go right into decay if the beginning of a new note sees an inital envelope value that's higher than 100%.

But in poly mode, only if the available notes run out. That's what's happening.Urs wrote:Like in about all analogue synths, the envelope trigger starts the envelope "from where it was". I always thought the default rule for poly mode to be "on end of available voices, the oldest voice played is immediately silenced and the new note behaves normally", going through it's entire envelope cycle. Have I been wrong all these years?

Just checked on the Jupi... yes, you've been wrong!Breeze wrote:I always thought the default rule for poly mode to be "on end of available voices, the oldest voice played is immediately silenced and the new note behaves normally", going through it's entire envelope cycle. One difference though is that if a note that's pressed has already been played before, it's that note that's stolen instead of the oldest released.

I stand corrected. Personally I find the "new" way more musically useful for my purposes; I guess I've been spoiled by polyphony.Urs wrote:Just checked on the Jupi... yes, you've been wrong!
That makes musical sense.Urs wrote:One difference though is that if a note that's pressed has already been played before, it's that note that's stolen instead of the oldest released.

Almost done ...
I thought that I couldn't get something new out of Tyrell .. I was wrong!
But everytime I do something I find that at least an extra matrix row is missing.
