Oh, I agree. I just never got a sound that I liked from AmpliTube's Marshall emus and was curious to hear your results. The glorious Marshall sound I remember is from the JCM 800 and the "Plexi" models. S-Gear is pretty close right out of the box, without much tinkering. Anyway, I treat all of this like one giant experiment in tone...no rules, just funzerocrossing wrote:Anyway, I got a tone I really liked, but I'd never swear "it sounds like a Marshall" though I have no idea of the S-Gear model does either. Frankly I don't really care about such things, I just care about getting something I liked.

Another complaint. If you click on the knobs instead of using the mousewheel, they go to zero. Not a big, but annoying.
I do get what you guys are saying about the feel though.

The Soldano's gain is not enough ?hibidy wrote:First two criticisms:
No tuner? Or am I not looking hard enough?
Not enough high gain.
Ask Dean what amp settings he uses for his monstrous tone, I was extremely surprised how moderate they are, he then uses an OD pedal (quite often a lowly TS or something) afaik, but let him comment.
Pretty sure careful pre/post EQ can help, too, most of the '80s / '90s hair metal bands I've seen had a battery of 31 bands in their racks.
And re tuners, do your Ibanezes have a tuning issue ?
Seriously, there are so many freeware tuners around, or if you need "more power" you could buy the Peterson Strobe to tame your 2 1/2 twins ...
Personally, after doing X64 and Mac versions I hope Mike Scuffham concentrates on what he does better than the rest, i.e. modeling of great guitar tone, instead of doing me-too versions of generic accessories, ymmv ...

It's funny you guys are so focused on the stupid tuner.
By the way if you need one, here is a free one (pretty good too)
http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1809.html
It is what it is,
there are a lot of things I would want way before the tuner:
- Midi control
- Drive pedals
- Reverb
- per block preset recall
.....just to name a few
I was told by the developer that they didn't want to load
this plug with a bazillion "your typical average effects".
They rather take the "boutique approach", quality over quantity.
Any effect that will come in the future will have to be something special, out of the ordinary, musical.
It must integrate seamlessly with everything else that's in there already in a way that makes sense so it is user friendly and reacts to your tweaking easily.

Ok, here's my take on it -
Sound quality is phenomenal, it simply sounds and reacts to dynamics better (IN MY OPINION) than anything else out there. The amp choice is excellent, with the Dumble, Park, and Soldano covering my whole range of playing styles, from country/rockabilly to thrash metal. The fact that 2 of the 3 amps modeled haven't been modeled by yet IK, NI, etc. is also a plus. And I love the tweak section, it's excellent for dialing in just the right top end and power amp dynamics.
Generous demo period, no invasive copy protection. Nice work there, guys.
As far as how to improve it for future versions, here's my 2 cents:
* Make it easier import user impulses; some users, especially those with Recabinet 2 or Redwirez Bigbox have thousands of impulses, and importing them all one at a time would take an eternity.
* Allow delay to be synced to the host BPM, and display the values for the feedback knob, mix knob etc.
* A "learn threshold" function as well as attack and decay controls would be useful additions to the gate
* Changing the behavior of the knobs so that they don't jump to where you click would be nice, in my opinion; others may differ with me on this, but the the knob jumping can be a bit disconcerting if you misclick by a tiny bit and instead of dragging say, the gain knob, from 1 to 1 and a half, you click on the 9 and the increase in volume and distortion blow you out of your chair.
* A mid control for the cab equalizer would also be appreciated
* Including a stomp box section would be the most useful feature addition of which I can think. Adding three pedals, such as a Klon Centaur, a tubescreamer pedal with a few (disablable)popular mods included, and a Fulltone OCD would be phenomenal, and fully in keeping with the approach of including one tool for everything, and chosing only the best. The Klon does clean boosts and slight overdrive, the OCD does light overdrive to serious crunch, and the 'screamer falls right in between.
Anyways, nice work!

@AndrewSimon:
If you have it open in standalone, I don't believe you can have strobosoft as well
Sure, strobosoft can run as vst but then it's something you have to have PER CHANNEL
I already went through this with headcase and it's a pain.
Seems I'm the only one who ever takes this stuff into consideration, doesn't mean I don't like it, but I think an inline tuner is a reasonable consideration.

Setting "Control Knob Mode" to Linear gets rid of most of the jumpy click behavior.
+1 on the impulse import... Some decent stomp boxes would be nice, but then again, I would have zero use for AT.
Oh, and how about some dual amp setups and stereo amp/cab/fx routing options to take advantage of my Ric-o-Sound?

It's not a top priority for me
but it's definately something I would use.

running both standalone is no problem with my RME's built-in mixer, most other cards I know have similar features (MOTU, Presonus etc), check the manual
No way, use a send like on a real mixer.hibidy wrote:Sure, strobosoft can run as vst but then it's something you have to have PER CHANNELI already went through this with headcase and it's a pain.

True, nothing wrong with a tuner I guess.
I'll never use ITB tuning anyway, nothing beats a rack tuner constantly connected to all possible guitar sources
Same for NR, 19" Hush style NR is so cheap s/h (I prefer the legacy Behringer SNR2000, completely pro unit
) and nothing can compare ITB yet.
