Voting was way tougher than I thought. In the end, I went with what (for me) where the patches I simply enjoyed the most:

1: something moist and plucked (5)
This one just made my fingers happy! Put and amp sim and some verb on it, turn the vibrato up a bit, hit some low notes, and you've got this weird 50's hollow-body-guitar-with-wooden-strings thing going.

2: Cello (4)
Underrated IMHO (and maybe because my daughter is a cellist). But it looks like great care was taken here to make a patch that sounds and plays exactly like it should - love the gentle vibrato on the MW and pressure adding bow pressure. I didn't notice how good this was until I put some verb on (you would never hear a cello without some reflections).

3: Lament (3)
I'm a sucker for dark pads, and this one sounds just right

4: Pad - 7th Wave (2)
Really inventive use of noise. Took a while to notice what was going on - this one is subtle.

5: Glass Impulse (1)
I may use this with a little tweaking in the Tyrell OSC (assuming I finish something on time!), so it has to count

Honorable mention:
PumpSyncBass... - what can't you do with this?
Drumloop and bikersgroal - just plain creative
Echoes In the Dark - for those Floyd tunes.

To all the above: :hail:
Good luck all!

It was not easy but here are my votes:

5pt - Phase Diverge
nice modulation with pressure

4pt - bleach caustics
absolutely dreamy lead sound

3pt - something moist and plucked
sounds very emotional

2pt - Wet Beaver
soft and warm as it must be

1pt - The Lament
perfect for melancholy

Additional shout-out to Digital Scream - just used a tweaked version of it in my Tyrell OSC. Never know what patch is going to come in handy.

Have you heard Zoe Keating? Saw her play a week ago - she has a vintage-looking mic, a footpedal board, and laptop running Live sort of becoming a third element in the human/cello existence ( http://music.zoekeating.com/ ). Use of effects is pretty sparse, I think more or less used to sort of enhance the layering at times, so basically it's cello tone and articulation doing all the work in that regard. It was very compelling!

(Since I'm plugging acts on tangents, also saw http://www.thebatteriesduo.com/ this week - I was actually the whole crowd so I got the free CD ... but the tangent is these guys took sort of the opposite approach with using the tech, something like whack-a-mole with buttons on MIDI controllers, also very compelling)

Votes:

5pts) TranceMachine - Arpeggiator hacks!

4pts) The Lament - Formant hacks!

3pts) FX Binar Man - pretty perfectly realized FX patch

2pts) WakeupMan - Multitimbral hacks!

1pts) Cinematech - There's a seamless blending of pad tones, dissonant tones, and noise that's really lively in this patch

General feeling about this contest was: "ineffable" Adjective
1. Too great or extreme to be expressed or described in words: "ineffable beauty"

I think that's a subtle linguistic evolution of "unf***ngbelievable" :)
