Loopers and such have given solo musicians the opportunity to do their thing without needing the support of pesky accompanists (What's a drummers last words before the band fires him? "Hey, lets do one of my songs!")
What's cool about electronic music is it also gives people who may not have great dexterity and coordination the ability to express themselves musically. Biggest problem now (as evidenced here, for example), is there's too much talent, and not enough time to listen and follow an artist's work.
