purist approaches for the sake of purism are ok for experiments in limitation, however, one may use whatever is (legally) available when making music if one feels like it. and, in this case, i felt like playing with all these luscious and nostalgic sounds. mind you, imagine if we weren't allowed to use any Tron vst's, and rather have to either purchase one or rent it sample it ourselves (and i'm basically refering to the VIP banks/tapes). Ralf didn't record the orchestron choirs and strings himself, nor did he resist the use of quite a few of the Synclavier presets either.

Ralf didnt record the Orchestron stuff of course but then why not hint at the Orchestron name in the sample library name? Because they sampled Kraftwerk instead of the Orchestron and few would know an Orchestron but many would know Kraftwerk? Its not a matter of samples from the Orchestron but chords etc lifted from tracks. New Order had the decency to ask Kraftwerk for the rights to sample and use on Blue Monday. Those who dont, go the hard way, rightly so.

Shouldnt be a shock, its well known that Kraftwerk are sampled everywhere, but until recently they havnt fought back. Afrika Bambaata being probably the first with Planet Rock in 1982 where he lifted sections of Trans Europe Express. Assuming thats whats happened here.standalone wrote:Best Service sampling from records???????. That's what you mean, really?.

To begin with, an Orchestron sampled from a record would be a completely and utterly shit. If you want a quality instrument you need clean samples of all the keys, period.UltraJv wrote:Shouldnt be a shock, its well known that Kraftwerk are sampled everywhere, but until recently they havnt fought back. Second, Best Service is not that kind of company. They make high quality products and they strictly respect copyrights, at least to my knowledge. I got their Cult Sampler library, for example, and they state there that they would have loved to include all the presets from the Fairlight factory library, but they couldn't trace the authorship of all of them, and so they were unable of asking for permissions for some of those presets.

Well, they tried to profit from the Kraftwerk name without dues - dont sound too respectful to me. They have done it before :standalone wrote:To begin with, an Orchestron sampled from a record would be a completely and utterly shit. You should know better than that! its a reference to Kraftwerk.standalone wrote:Is the word "kraftworker" copyrighted?.UltraJv wrote:Well, thet tried to profit from the Kraftwerk name without dues - dont sound too respectful to me. Than what?. You said that they could have sampled an Orchestron from a record, and I say that this is absurd. It would be unuseable and Best Service don't sample from records. Thats what I'm saying and what you are evading.
Stating that a library is inspired in the sound of some artist is something that almost everybody does. If Kraftwerk didn't like it this time, we don't know for sure, it's ok for me. But that doesn't make Best Service guilty of copyright infringement.

You sound a bit too involved or guilty? Lets see if theres more to this. Every famous artist or company out there will do exactly the same if you reference their name in any way without permission. Time will tell.
