5pt joecat - imo hands down the best track especially production wise. the percussions are so good and detailed hard to believe it is all 100% tyrell. this track simply can't be improved. it's 100% PRO.

4pt mulperi tyrell.ok i'm a bit biased here...but good 80s italo tracks will always get good votes from me ;P

3pt pocvecem - some nice kraftwerky parts

2pt doc john - great sound design and composition (especially the synthesized FM voices are awesome).
but personally can't stand hearing yet again in a track that cliche moroder bass sequence . and the drum sounds are a little bland.

1pt mnmlg - really phat beat and moog bass...although not much else...

tommybear - so tyrelled...lovely..but ran out of points:/ same goes for irondaronin and few others which surely deserved some points.

How would you trim them?

That's a great idea. Maybe you could be the person who adjudicates on who exactly around the world will get to enter the OSC each month? **sarcasm**

Seriously though, it took 3 times as long to put a song together for the comp' than it did to nominate songs which stood out in the crowd of 31 competitors. Besides, with the time that you've invested into mentioning how 31 songs are too many to vote for, and THEN reading the replies, you could have listened to a quarter of the playlist!

You make it sound like this competition doesn't really interest you, in which case, maybe you shouldn't vote anyway...? Music should be about the desire of the composers to express themselves, and their passion for stirring emotions in the listener?

Where's your passion???

If it's definitely synthesized music, then quit whining and enjoy some Single-Synth music from last months entries, pick 5 favourites, then grab yourself a copy of this month's synthesizer and start composing!
andrewthomas10 wrote:I'd really like to vote. But it's like the Eurovision song contest with the number of tracks.
I can see what you mean (time-wise), but like I mentioned above, if you were passionate about this then you (like I was) would be EXCITED that there were as many entries as there were. If you aren't excited, then you need to find an outlet that DOES excite your musical drive and creative juices. A clinical competition like this one isn't for everybody...

I don't know. I guess maybe five well-established people could be invited to be a panel? Maybe previous winners? A different panel each time.

It's fair enough - the listeners always have the final decision on who is the winner from the final 10, after all.

31 tracks is surely the limit. If it gets up to 50+ ever then I think you have to think about it.

Well, I think that nobody wants that. I don't understand your problem here. It's great that this challenge has so much popularity. And I want to make my own decisions. Nobody should tell me what I have to like or not.

How can a competition be fair and democratic when a few peoples opinions cut down your options? Everybody here must get the same chance!

My voting was rather easy this time since there are a lot of tracks that fully meet my taste. And so my voting completely differs from others who voted after me.

This is a competition with real people showing their talents and their self-made music. And it's getting better each time.
This is not a fake casting-show like on TV!

So let's keep "Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations".

Live long and prosper,
Gerald

But then someone would still have to judge the full list which was the problem to begin with right?

I agree voting can be difficult, but someone's got to do it no matter what.

In the Music Café section monthly competitions here, the top 10 must be sorted within a week, we have 5 in 2 weeks so still easier although we had 7 before.

The Eurovision example is interesting because as you know, millions and millions vote and they do it within a few hours. They even pay to do so. Of course most only hear the songs 1 time and only vote for 1 or 2 normally, but we decided to keep it to 5 so as to separate more due to fewer entries and voters. Of course if this level of entries keep up, the number can be reconsidered.

Wow, what a month!!! A record number of submissions and some STUNNING tracks. As always, thanks to all those who have been kind enough to give me points

As I'm sure will be repeated many times this month, 5 choices just aren't enough with the overall quality of the submissions, but anyway, I've finally whittled my short list (with great difficulty) down to the following:

5 points: Steplton - 9:00pm

Standout track for me. For some reason this just reminded me so much of early Wally Badarou/Mike Lindup, amazingly catchy tune, excellent choice of sounds and so skillfully constructed, I would have preferred the last section to be at least another minute in length! I'm still not sure about the time signature change at 1:50, but hey, what the heck - 5 points to you my friend!

4 points: Stonail - Cycling on Tyrell's surface

Less is definitely more as this track proves, sublime chilled tones, sparse tune but oh so perfect, and that endless lush silky reverb - I could listen to this all day!

3 points: Branis - The Tannhauser Gate

This track just excels on the strength of its patches, when that funky 'wacca wacca' noise appeared I knew points were required! In a highly effective mix of electronica, funk and Vangelis you have managed to combine it all together in a most impressive way, well recorded too btw

2 points: evo2slo - You Are The Blade

Continuing the Vangelis theme, this monster tune has all the required signature sounds all present and correct in a strong composition, and then that scream!! Loved it

1 point: PocVecem - Vulcan Jazz

Another excellent combination of strong composition and well chosen patches which complement one another perfectly. Great mix too btw

Big respect to everyone else, so many tracks that would have scored high points in any other month, there were at least six or seven others that I struggled to omit from the points :(

Here are our votes:

bzur - Rachael: 5
Different and very, very beautiful,

Steplton - 9:00 pm: 4
Easy going flow, then something to count to, then some more flowing melodies (fades too fast),

mleghorn - Isle of the Dead: 3
Different and interesting use of motifs throughout the composition, we liked the first version more than the loud one,

Stonail - Cycling on Tyrell's Surface: 2
Beautiful and dreamy, maybe a bit too much so,

Branis - The Tannhauser Gate: 1
Unbeatably funky rhythm, lacks a strong melody on top,

The others:

Prefekt X - String Theory
Strong end, the first three quarters lack flow,

MnmlG - Distractions
Interesting rhythm track, give an unfinished feeling, not really developping to anywhere,

Bstageboss - Night Race to Arecibo
Interesting patches used, strong track,

elipsis1 - myoplex
Nice Ska/Offbeat feeling to this track, not bad,

elipsis1 - phatso
The ugly sister of myoplex (we like good looking tracks better),

bzur - Richard D
Nice track, but Rachael is so much better,

JoeCat - Another Industrial Accident
Very strong track, we think Lord Vader was a bit too loud,

Yeager - What the Fugue
No more points left, what a shame, very nice classical vibe,

RuediRena - Pommesexport
Please tell us what you think about it,

evo2slo - you are the blade
interesting, something for special hours, when you need never ending spiraling choirs,

Acronym - Dryrell
We like your courage to give us this dry track, regrettably it lacks a climax towards the end,

TommyBear - Where are you?
One of the best, sorry, no points left,

TommyBear - So Tyrelled
TommyBear mutates to DancingBear, we like the meter and the pipe organ sounds,

IrionDaRonin - From Daydreaming to Reality
Another very strong track, we are shure you will be one of the winners, so we took some other and maybe less obvious choices,

TB4C - TYRELLA THE BELLY DANCER
Good idea, strong bass line, nice melody, lacks some drama,

CapDan - Dis-Cussion
We need more points, funky and never boring, pitchbends galore,

IrionDaRonin - The Saddest Goodbye
Deep melody, very beautiful, to us this sounds more epic than sad like some old folk ballad, where are those points when you need them?,

Mike777 - Return to Home Planet
We like the 70s analog mood of this track, maybe a bit calm,

Acronym - Radium
Nice sounds, nice details, but we can't quite see where this is going to,

Gorgorgathgorgorgor - Night of the Nanozombiez
We can see those Zombiez closing in, fine track, one extra point for the most beautiful wave shape in the Soundcloud player,

evo2slo - biomechanical god
Nice percussion, fine melodies, give us some more points to vote,

marks-a-whybikky - Short Tyrell
Some strange ideas, which we like, we want to see Long String Theory,

Hemmick Reef - Tyrellisaurus
We like those fat bass pads so much, we miss percussion towards the end,

Doc Jon - Freak Me Out
Irresistable bass line, very strong vocal sounds, how did you create them?,

PocVecem - Vulcan Jazz
Servus, you are a master, sorry for wasting our points somewhere else,

Mulperi - Tyrell
Right on, this is Tyrell, like the driving rhythm

A last word:

Please don't restrict the number of submissions! We have so much fun!
Looking forward to hearing from you all on OSC29!

Great atmosphere and beautiful patches.

Another song with great atmosphere and taste.

1 p. - Mike777 Return to home planet
Returned successfully! :)

There are however other songs that deserve attention. Greets to you all. I've especially liked bzur's songs, Radium by Acronym is also really decent piece of music, the beginning Night of the Nanozombies makes me sweat of becoming scared! DocJon and Branis - great job! JoeCat as well. There are others, hard to name you all. I've run out of points. I wish I had more!

Great entries all! Very creative works and amazing productions. When there are more than 20 entries in a contest, I would like to vote for a top 10. Anyone agree?

thanks for the comments, and yes, it was quite unfinished. Still working on it now haha. but this is the first track i'll've completed once it's completely done. started working in ableton about 2 months ago with no prior music producing experience, and haven't dug in quite as much as i'd like, damn full time job :P

Hi there KVRers.
This month has been a real big contest due to huge numbers or tracks.
I was wondering if due to this, shouldn't we to make a 1-10 point voting system next time if the number of tracks are more than 20 or 25?
Too many good tracks ran out of points from that huge list. So sorry for those who i left out and may worth it.

Well, some of you know how goes my Star System Vote.
  • *One Star to Feeling - Artistic Expression.
*One Star to Quality of Sound - Technical Expression.
*One Star to Efficiency - Skill Expression.
So, every track could have between zero star to 3 stars. This made the things easier, and made me to take from the list only those songs with 3 or 2 stars.
From those 29 tracks, I got 14 nice tracks which i shorted (with hard difficult) to this list:

  • 5 points -Pocvecem - Vulcan Jazz
The first time i heard this i saw a winner. Nice ambient song.
And a great rithmic part too. My girlfriend and me, we are in love with this song. Keep making music like this.
And thanks for your points. Despite to this, your track is totally awesome.
I think we are in the same musical board. Cheers.

    4 points -Bzur - Rachael
A precious melody full of sentiment. Nice use of different instruments. I prefer this much more than Richard D.
Also i could hear some alike melodies from 'Menace' in your Richard D track. Hehe. Cheers.

3 points -Mike777 - Return to Home Planet
A good ambient song with a great efficiency by part of creator. I could hear some accompaniment chords from Flourescent Sky here too.
But maybe a bit long to my taste.
My PC is even a bit lower than yours, hehe (2,60 MHz) So i felt your pain. Cheers.

2 points -Hemmick Reef - Tyrellisaurus Rex
Nice vibra-melody, i'm in love with it and i can get out of my head.
And nice arpeggios from Kirnu, finally ;)
    Cheers.

    1 point -Elipsis - Phatso
A nice contrast to the other tracks. Elipsis, as always, making his electronic flow contribution, and this is a high risk, hate it or love it. Nice rithmic patterns and chopping basslines. But make them a bit longer. Or maybe you should take ideas from both and mixed it in one track. Cheers.

Sorry for some others like Branis, Stelpton, Doc Jon and some others, this time, i ran out of points. Great tracks. And you all know how difficult is to vote and leave out some good tracks. I hope you can understand this (as i do)

@Ruedirena
Thanks for your comment and your sincerity. Cheers :)

@Gorgathgor
I can't get out of my head your melody, hehe. Keep thus.

So cheers everyone and good luck :)

I must go to make some plucks, i'm crying for that M-Theory :hihi:

Hm yes maybe, but there has already been calls to lighten the voting and this is the opposite..

More input on this from others please.
