Just a little YouTube tutorial showing how I program dirty bass sounds in Zebra 2. While some people say the distortion in Z2 isn't that great, I think with clever use of wavetables, osc FX and the right filters, you can get an extremely gritty sound that is as phat (or phatter) than Massive, DCAM Synth Squad, etc.

Check it out and let me know what you think:

very honest video!

lots of useful info in there! & put together very professionally (impressive seeing as you made the preset from scratch)

it also shows Zebras weakest spot, (its re-verb) :hihi:

thanks for sharing,

Hey Zircon, I really like your tutorials. Believe it or not, but one of your older tuts (real time pad programming) actually gave me the final kick to buy Zebra.

Excellent tutorial, as always, zircon. I hope you do some more.

Thanks for the video, very interesting. I am a Tetralogy owner and user and i recognize in this video the same high quality.
Keep up the good job!

Awesome stuff as always Zircon! I was a little concerned you left Zebra behind after getting Omnisphere, glad to see you still find a place for it in your workflow. I love hearing it in your music. :)

Thanks Andrew!

We'll soon work on distortion... promised 8)

Cool tutorial... I've never understood the people who say Zebra can't do dirty. 90% of the sounds I discover in it are just nasty (in a good way :).

Personally I find the distortion in Zebra to have a sort of abrasive plasticky FM-ish-ness about it. Nothing wrong with that, but if it's the warm fuzzy variety you're after, that can be more difficult to coax out of it. I for one am looking forward to the aforementioned distortion module Urs!

Nice tutorial Zircon, I might spend some more time with Geo/Spectroblend and Osc FX.

Immensely useful! Thanks :)

Thank you all for the kind words! I'm glad you've found this one useful. I've been using Zebra 2 pretty much since day one, and I think it will always be a major part of my workflow.

I'd be happy to take any requests for other tutorial topics.

Great video of a great synthesizer. Thank you for that. I would be interested even a video of the MSEG.

best regards

That's a fair comment actually, I like both the plasticy synthy distortion, *and* the warm crunch, so I never really noticed but the former is certainly a lot easier than the latter.

And yes, more modules in Zebra is just an amazing thought :)

EDIT: Just a note about the Unempty Horse skin... if you use it, be aware of the fact that it hides the drive knob for the 12db LPF in the VCF module (which IMO sounds freaking AMAZING with the resonance from the filter, but that's just me)

My bad... I'll try to fix it...

We've planned up to 5 more modules, in sync to the work on Diva and Berlin Modular... will need to add this to the dark horse, too...
