OK. Here's a quick screenshot. I'm afraid I'm no graphic designer. I've nicked the colours from these forums in an effort to give it a KVR feel. The main feature to add before I can make a beta release is for it to remember your ratings between runs.

I have really enjoyed listening to all these tracks, even my own .

The trouble is the more I listen certain tracks that didn't hit me initially start to grow on me and I find that I keep returning to them!

I don't think that I've disliked any of the songs, they all have good points but in the end I can only give 5 places, it's a pity as I have chosen about 3 equal for first about 2 for second etc... anyway my votes:

5 points - 15 Tommybear / So Tyrelled

4 points - 10 RuediRena / Pommesexport

3 points - 28 Pocvecem / Vulcan Jazz

2 points - 19 Iriondaronin / TheSaddestGoodbye

1 point - 27 Branis / TheTannhauserGate

A special mention for Mike777, great lead sounds reminds me of Genesis and Tony Banks. Also bzur and Rachael, very relaxing. Steplton and 9_00 another strong track.

I've downloaded them all and will certainly be listening to them all regularly :).

The same colors from KVR. Nice work!

Also is alike to my Star voting system.

My 3 main factors to rate a song are:

-Feeling factor
If the song makes me feel something, could i cry with the song? could i think in this of that another? Could make me feel raving?.
This is Artistic expression.

-Quality factor
If the song sounds good, audio quality, compression, equalization, good mastering, etc.
This is Technical expression.

-Efficiency factor
Is not the same a good work with a low CPU and equip that a poorly done work with a huge CPU and higher PC.
This is Skill expression from the creator to make a nice song with the lowest equip possible. Also automations, complexity, etc.

At last, when only remains 5 songs, i just follow the first factor, mostly.

Cheers for your great work, man. And thanks for the screenshot :)

Thank you. There are so many good tracks. We never reckoned with any points to be honest.

P.S.
A word about Tyrell.
The different patches we used have an almost "acoustic" feeling, like playing real drums and other instruments. We didn't plan this, but that is the way things went. Very, very nice for a virtual analog synth.

I've got a beta version of my rating app available here. It should remember your ratings and comments between sessions, but remember it is beta! It's got the basic features I wanted to give it, and I have a whole long list of ideas for improving it. Probably I will use it for the first time in earnest next competition, and tweak it then, but if anyone wants to give this early version a try and give feedback that will be fine. Currently, each time you load it it will start in anonymous mode - click ? to reveal names. Also it randomizes the playlist order every time. I've decided that "excluded" tracks will stay in the list, but they will be auto-skipped when the player moves onto the next track. Their titles are simply greyed out.

We can see those Zombiez closing in, fine track, one extra point for the most beautiful wave shape in the Soundcloud player
If it doesn't look good, how could it sound good?

Muahaha all is going according to my evil plans! (except for the whole getting votes/winning the comp thing...)

hey, I tried man, I can't help it if I'm naturally brilliant! (as I'm on the way to yet another goose egg...)

Ok, My take on the voting debate... I like it just the way it is, and this is coming from the guy who's been dead last the last two comps. I know it's hard to make up our minds about who to give points to, but that is after all the whole point I think, Let the cream rise to the top! I certainly don't take offense if my creation gets no votes, I know I'm a weird bastard, and I don't expect my stuff to mesh with most folk's personal tastes about music (I do enjoy when I tickle a comment out of someone).
As far as limiting the entries, the only thing I would consider as reasonable is if we want to limit folks to one entry each (and remember I have submitted two entries before myself). That would at least reduce our listening time a bit, and force us to be more discerning about what we submit (not that we've been indiscriminate...).
anyway, that's my two cents.

Hello,

Here are my votes:

5p. IrionDaRonin - From Daydreaming to Reality (Great ambiance but it gets a tiny bit overpowered in some places, nice mix overall)

4p. Steplton - 9:00 pm ( Lovely positive vibe and melodies, mix could be better tho )

3p. Acronym - Radium (Loving the tune, cool fitting sounds, wish it was better mixed. )

2p. Doc Jon - Freak Me Out (Very nice arrangement and mix but a bit borring overall.)

1p. bzur - Rachael (Touching melody)

Cheers and good luck! :)

Very grateful for your actual points. Really made my day, thanks! :)

And thanks to the others who voted me. It really makes me happy.

Good day to everybody. Cheers.

About Silverlight, I've so far not installed it as I dread any Microsoft pervasive installs ala .NET with 100 dll's everywhere etc. Anyone can say how bad or not Silverlight is? DRM drivers and all kinds of 'extras' installed at the same time as is common with MS' stuff?

It's quite well behaved in fact - it doesn't install anything but the browser plugin (about 7 Mb download last I checked, possibly a bit bigger these days). It's similar to Flash - just another browser plugin that you can disable / uninstall at any point.

Post

So this is a browser app?

But I should've done some research about Silverlight itself before asking about the install situation, as I obviously don't want a browser app that can access files on my hard disk..

(nothing against you or your app which looks great, just like to play safe)
