You know, FL Studio provides the exact same funstionality as Chainer, using the Layering function. I think Chainer's cool, and always have, but whats cooler is something that does the same thing, and has a trillion extras along with it for a mere $19 more than Chainer. Also, If you email Image-Line, they'll email you back, and they do update their stuff regularly. Just a thought...

thanks for the whois tip...
so listen... I'm in the USA and only speak english... sadly I don't speak German which must be Thomas's native language, eh?
I just did call his first phone number [it would be worth the cost of the call to me to learn what is going on... like someone mentioned, Maybe... his email is not working]
well a person did pick up the phone there, and I asked for Thomas... and said "I can only speak english"... and they replied, "NO"... and hung up on me... darn it.
so, I'm asking if anyone reading here might live closer to him and be able to speak in German and if so, would you get the phone number from the whois link in this thread [enter xlutop.com in the whois search] give him a call and see if you can find out what is going on with his email and with chainer's future??? if you do, please, please come back and post here will you?
I really feel bad that Chainer has not come out with it's 2.0 version... someone asked for news about what was planned for it...
I can say that from my long ago emails with Thomas, the DX and DXi as well as the already existing vst and VSTi functions where working in 2.0 'beta'...
other features included some ways to copy or move the channel set ups from one channel to another...
a velocity keyboard scaling feature was being worked on...
and one I requested and think would kick Chainer into hyper use.... let me explain the idea:
as it is now, let's say I have chainer and some vsti's... and then say I load up some of them into chainer, tweak away using several vsti's and vsts, sends, etc.... which can result in a totally new and unique new 'intrument' sound [if you use chainer you know this well]
then, let's say I save the chainer preset for this set up. and then I send the preset to you so you can use my 'new intrument' in your sequencers... ok...
well as it is now, even if you do have all the vsti's and vst's that I have used, they will likely NOT be in the same vst plugins folder on your system as they are on mine. [unless you too install all yours to D:\@VST Plugins.... LOL]
so... when you try to load my preset, chainer will need to be made to do a rescan of the vst folders you have it pointed at... this is tedious [to say the least] if you have a lot of plugins.
OK... so the new feature would allow chainer to load another users preset without all that hassle... and if the current user did not happen to have the needed vsti's or vst's... that would simply get mentioned when trying to load the preset... confusing? sorry, but think about it... It would litterally add tons of new user made sounds all done as chainer presets... which could be uploaded, for example to the banks and presets files on kvr. Way nice 'new' feature, eh?
...and there were others in the works as well.... but I for one would gladly settle for all the above!!!

ummm Smart... sorry but no cigar... FL does not do the 'exact same things' as Chainer..
I have been a reg'd fruity customer since the early days and still am even now with FL Studio XL 4.51...
If you really think it does the same thing as Chainer then I must say you don't really know Chainer and\or don't have a reg'd version that can save it's presets...
But the argument you are trying to make is semi silly to me... it's like saying hey a cresent wrench can be used to hammer nails also and is almost the same cost as a hammer so why not just buy a cresent wrench...?
ahhhh not me thank... I own them both [Chainer and FL Studio... and for that matter various hammers, many wrenches and a huge assortment of other tools of all kinds].... hahahaha
Now I'm not trying to put ya down smart, but really you don't quite have the same picture that I'm looking at....
just for fun... where is the preset Lab in FL Studio? Do you know where it is in Chainer? Ever used it? Do you own a lic. for Chainer?
anyway... hope we can get back on topic now as this thread was not about something vs. something else.

Your comparing apples and oranges. Quite different tools here. Chainer is a fantastic piece of software and I do hope to see a update soon.

Thing about Chainer is that it’s a very light program and fast. Great for testing synths out or for messing with the patch breeder thing. However the big thing now against it is the lack of communication from it’s developer – therefore there will come a time when people simply wont buy it due to it’s unclear future.
A support forum – contact with the developer and regular updates, would equal a good outlook for Chainer.
However the competition is there FL is just one example = they have a support forum = contact with the developers and a good track record for updates.
Best regards,

Don't worry, smart, I understood you even if nobody else did. It kinda sucks when people get after you for the things you didn't say, doesn't it?smart wrote:What part of

Oh ..., I searched and found out that I´m not totally right with that. Here was his last sign of life: http://www.kvr-vst.com/forum/viewtopic. ... highlight=AndreasEhrhardt wrote:It seems Thomas/Xlutop wants to be one of the most mysterious persons around here, because in none of the Chainer threads during the last months he never wrote anything.

Is the "Preset Lab" similar to the patch randomizing/hybridizing functions in FL?max wrote:just for fun... where is the preset Lab in FL Studio? Do you know where it is in Chainer? Ever used it? Do you own a lic. for Chainer?

Maybe it is a too good deal the demo itself.
I use Chainer daily for testing my plugs.
And I also managed to run my 2.2ghz Celeron laptop
at 4ms with my U24 USB audio card playing up to
100 stereo voices in my e-kit module sampler before
the system started to give.
With any other program the system would jam before
you could do any useful.
It is a super stable program but it lacks on some points
such as being able to handle multiple outs from VSTi´s and auto loading presets.(my wish)
An update seems to be what I´m waiting for.....
BUT! We don´t know what´s up with the dude. It could
be anything from boredom to death.
What ever you´re doing right now Thomas is OK.
