Does the idea of a duophonic retrigger mode make sense to anyone - ie, duo mode as implemented in Zebra, ACE and Tyrell but with envelope retrigger?

Post

I don't see the point - might as well use poly. Not retriggering is what gives duophonic mode its character!

But duo mode isn't just a two note version of mono legato, is it?

In duophonic mode play one note and osc 1 and 2 are pitched with respect to that key - play two notes and osc1 stays where it is but osc2 is pitched with respect to the new key. It's this floating osc2 behaviour that I find the most interesting aspect of duo mode.

And, with the floating osc, playing one then two notes in a duophonic retrigger mode would be different to the case where one then two notes are played in poly mode.

An example in use: with duo mode in Tyrell some interesting effects can be had with ring mod between osc 1 & 2 - play one note and you get the resulting RM for both osc's on that key, play two notes and as the relative pitch of the osc's changes so does the timbre of the ring mod. In such a case having the env's retrigger when the second note is keyed might be useful - in fact I've found myself wanting to do just this, hence my post.

That, plus the monophonic rest of the signal chain. Especially that keyfollow is mono adds to the character significantly

You mean a simple mono retrigger as in "Retrigger" mode, not a two-note Poly mode? Hmmm...might be worth thinking about :). In the end, I'd like complete control over retriggering!

Interesting enough, the 800dv can have two voices played rather independently... hmmm...

Yep, that's it in a nutshell! :)
