Turnado: Recording automation on insert efx bus?

I am working in Sonar X1. Inserting Turnado sounds cool. I put it on my effects send bus, so i can affect all tracks that i choose.
Say i find a dictator setting that I like. Now I want to automate this, so that in Sonar X1 this is only sent every other 4 bars.
Is this possible? I manage to select automation curve on the bus track, but there is no record button, to record it?!
Simply drawing in the curve myself results in Turnado doing ...nothing, nada, niet, nichts.
Anybody could suggest me something?
thanks,
Cyph

I do this all the time. Insert Turnado on the bus and assign a MIDI track's output to Turnado (Turnado must be configured as a synth [and inserted as a synth into the bus' FX bin] to do so). Select the Dictator automation parameter from the MIDI track and automate away.

Thanks, I will try that! Setting turnado as a synth... does that mean it is not usable as an insert effect as long as Sonar thinks it's a synth?

Need to demo Turnado. How are you finding it (apart from the workflow hiccup you've posted here)?
Strikes me as another iZotope Stutteredit of DBGlitch?

Honestly, I bought Turnado just after 15 mins with the demo. For me this is much easier to use and understand than stutter and glitch, also much more versatile. Love the effects, the presets, the dictator, the overall amount of variation one can achieve.
stutter edit is a one trick pony. glitch is nice, yeah, but turnado is so easy to use with instant gratification so i can only highly recommend it..
had a friend at home. he saw turnado in action and bought it the same night.

With a Midi track you can send a CC to Turnado and then Midi Learn it with a Turnado knob or the Dictator fader.cryophonik wrote:Insert Turnado on the bus and assign a MIDI track's output to Turnado. Select the Dictator automation parameter from the MIDI track and automate away.
Automation should be sent from the track on which Turnado is inserted, so this must be the Bus track I think,
best

That's actually most similar to the way I've been automating Turnado when it's on a bus. I MIDI-learn a knob from my controller and automate it from the MIDI track either by playing it in real-time or by manually drawing it in.Sugar Bytes wrote:

I actually haven't tried automating it directly from the audio bus, but I have automated it directly from a track that Turnado is inserted on. I'll try automating it directly from the bus after work this evening.Sugar Bytes wrote:

+1 to everything. Stutter Edit is very cool, but, as cyphersuit mentioned, it's pretty limited compared to Turnado (and Artillery 2 for that matter) in terms of effects types and it's further hampered by what I consider to be a lack of basic and necessary features - e.g., automate-able and/or MIDI-learnable/assignable parameters, global dry/wet balance, etc. Stutter Edit really focuses on glitchy effects and is unmatched in that area IMO, whereas Turnado is a much more versatile instrument IMO and it was obviously conceived with more emphasis on the users' needs. My only "complaint" is that it takes forever to find the parameter you're looking to automate because the damn list is so long!cyphersuit wrote:Honestly, I bought Turnado just after 15 mins with the demo. Automating Turnado on a bus works fine here.
- Make sure that it's configured as a synth
- Insert it as a synth into the bus' FX bin (drag it from the browser, or right-click in the FX bin and select Soft Synths > Turnado
- Select Turnado > Turnado1:Dictator as your automation parameter (9th parameter in the list)
- Shape the envelope to taste
- Make sure that it's configured as a synth
- Insert it as a synth into the bus' FX bin (drag it from the browser, or right-click in the FX bin and select Soft Synths > Turnado
- Select Turnado > Turnado1:Dictator as your automation parameter (9th parameter in the list)
- Shape the envelope to taste

Pardon. What do you mean when you say 'configure as a synth'. I'm a bit confused by this.cryophonik wrote:Automating Turnado on a bus works fine here.

It's the way you use Turnado in Sonar, in order to make the effectnarz3000 wrote: Pardon. What do you mean when you say 'configure as a synth'. I'm a bit confused by this.

I had way too much fun with this last night. Still on the fence as already have iZotopes Stutterecit and glitch, this is different and I need to go back and check the workflow on stutter as i think this is simpler to use but more fiddly to set up.
Not sure about Sonar, whilst I have X1 haven't used it. On Cubase simple to implement in midi
