Hi everyone!

I'm currently working on another Zebra bank and I noticed that it really helps to have a unique Init preset!

You can download the preset here: http://www.bronto-scorpio-music.com/Downloads/Init .h2p
But it may be a better idea to create your own preset with your own favorite settings :)

It really helped me to speed up my workflow :)
Just wanted to encourage you to do the same :)

Here is a messy list of the changes I made to the default Init preset:

Code: Select all

- The master tuning is set to 0 instead of -12
- The output is set to 100
- The arp and swing rates are set to 1/16 instead of 1/8
- The arp range is set to 0 octaves instead of 1
- All MSEGs are cleared
- The edit mode of all MSEGs is set to single instead of shift
- The XY page is cleaned up
- All LFOs are set to a triangle wave instead of a sine wave
- LFO1 is set to a usefull, none synced, vibrato setting
- The trigger mode of all polyphonic LFOs is set to gate instead of free
- All LFO rates (except LFO1) are set to 1sec instead of 1/4
- Delay1 is set to a usefull delay setting (synced)
- Delay2 is set to a usefull delay setting (not synced)
- ModFX1 is set to a usefull chorus setting
- ModFX2 is set to a usefull phaser setting
- All comp operation modes are set to smooth instead of eco
- Slightly changed reverb setting
- Slightly changed comp settings
- All OSC phases are set to 50 instead of 0 (makes it easy to switch to a
  square wave)
- The width of all OSCs, FMOs, combs and noise generators is set to 100
  instead of 50
- All VCFs are set to LP Vintage2 instead of LP Xcite
- The drive of all XMFs is set to analogue instead of XMF
- The V-Slope of all envs is set to -60 (A slightly "punchier" version of
  the quadric mode)
- All shapers are set to wedge instead of drive
- The edge of all shapers is set to 100 instead of 50
- The input and volume of all combs is set to 100 instead of 50
- The release of all Envs is set to 10
- The velocity influence of all envs is set to 0
- The voices are set to many instead of medium
- 3 of the 4 nodes in the OSC and FMO Key->Gain maps are set completely to
  the left.
The 4th node is set completely to the right (Just set the 4th node to a
lower value to get less gain on higher notes)
- 3 of the 4 nodes in the OSC and FMO Vel->Gain maps are set completely to
  the right.
The 4th node is set completely to the left (Just set the 4th node to a
lower value to get less gain on lower velocities)
- Some other minor changes
Cheers
Dennis

Wouldn't been easier to just give us the patch? :hihi:

..Cool, I use 90% of the same settings as you for "defaults".. but never saved at least half of them into my init patch. :D

Here is the preset if anyone wants to use it :)

molto grazie!

Thanks! Made an Analog Init patch with a basic analog subtractive synth structure from your Init patch.
Care to check it out and maybe add modules or fine tune a bit to bring it more to an analog behaviour?

EDIT! Updated (detune instead of tune modulated by modmaper for a sweeter multiwave when using dual, quad or eleven modes)

Thanks for sharing :)
Will check it out asap.

Maybe a good idea to collect some Init presets and templates in thsi thread!

Would be a cool idea for next months contest too. Everyone has to create a sound out of the same template (without adding other modules).

Just an idea.

Hey yeah, good idea. Than who ever makes the template for the FMO contest can include 2 osc modules with the Sine Tree" loaded... so we can have "6 operators" :D

A while ago I thought about emulating some synth architectures using Zebra... like the Synth1 .. or the Polysix .. but everytime I've abandoned the whole thing because I couldn't hard sync to different osc or didn't have other modules for exemple.

Ben did something similar in the Transmissions soundbank. He made several synth template init patches. You can read about them in the manual:
http://u-he.com/zebra/download/z2_trans ... manual.pdf

The patch templates start on page 25.

^ interesting, gonna check that out in more detail when I'll have the time, thanks!

Template for drum kit in a single patch.

http://www.box.net/shared/t57oc5v7p0b15mahi9vj

C1 - C1# = OSC1
D1 - D1# = OSC2
E1 - G1 = OSC3
G1# - B1 = OSC4
----------------
FMO 1,2 - E1 - G1
FMO 3,4 - G1# - B1

Where OSC1 can be the kick drum....
OSC2 - snare
OSC3 - toms / percs
OSC4 - cymbals

FMO1,2 - layer for toms/percs
FMO3,4 - layer for cymbals.

OK, I'm carefully modeling some simple, basic and good sounding waves in GeoMorph mode ...to feature within my upcoming "perfect" :D INIT patch.

I've already modeled:
-Triangle (more like a fin wave)
-Triangle + even harmonics (sounds like a dark saw)
-Tri-Saw (Modeled after a Minimoog Triangular-Saw waveform sample)
-Saw*
-SQ*
-Pulse Waves* (37.5% 25% 12.5% 4% 0.5%)
--If you break a Square into 2 pair of harmonics you'll get 2 interesting and very usefull waves. I've modeled those as well.
* - It will be a surprize 8)

I still have 4 empty wave slots out of 16, Please suggest some basic or important waveforms to model to complete the palette. GeoMorph only atm (Sine trees, FM waveforms and others will be modeled within the same waveset but under other wave modes.)
So, what am I missing? :)

Nice one Dennis :). Enjoying this thread.
(oh, and "yays" for Vintage2 and Wedge)

I happened to do this too, but becouse of I like Zebra's sound a bit more when drift and attack smoothing is off. (Ocasionaly I'll turn it on, but good to have it as init.) And yeah, global transpose to 0. :)

Thanks Dennis. I'm going to go through your text here actually, so I can make my own changes and yet not miss anything!
