no idea what this tinker tool pop up shows, but it's not a permissions problem. I'm using Apple's installer with Iceberg frontend. If anything is wrong with the installer, it might. be on their end.

I do however run a script that *grants* permissions for certain resource files. That's why I recommend to install rather than copy, especially when you're not using an admin account for production.

ACE uses that much cpu. The website warns about that :)

The 64-bit version are betas and as such installed with caution.

No harm will be done installing or uninstalling them though.

ttoz wrote:no but it was your standard 32 bit installers that gave those messages, i think we are having communication issues lol..

as long as those permissions messages can be safely ignored? then i am not really worried.

You're going to place stock in a freeware app that plays with your system preferences over u-He and the reputation his products enjoy? I've had Zebra and Filterscape installed on my PPC G5 and the same along with Ace on my Intel MacBook - no worries.

no such a message here with tinkertool system and the latest u-he plugIns.

i also think that tinkertool only start the apple standart programm to repair permissions and most of the listet "errors" you can ignore, as apple wrote some time ago
:hihi:

A lot of the TinkerTool utilities wrap system utilities in OS X in a GUI. The permissions checker is one of them - it calls repair_packages as part of the permissions checks which then goes and looks at the receipts OS X stores for any software installed by the Installer app. If you open Console and check the system.log file, the same errors turn up during installation.

The errors, however, are benign, and seem to be a symptom of the way that Apple changed how it stores installer information for 10.6 (there's b*gger all documentation on the errors so it's hard to be sure). Most of the 10.6 installer receipts don't go into Library/Receipts anymore, they go into one of the hidden folders (/var/db/receipts in this case). However, for some reason, repair_packages still crunches through the old folder and throws up these errors - MS Office 2008, VMware and various other bits of software suffer the same problem. AudioEase's installers do the same by the looks of it.

There is nothing wrong with the package receipts themselves. Open them in Pacifist and everything checks out - the files and permissions for the installed files are all correct. But repair_packages still throws up this error, possibly because some packages trigger one of the many bugs in PackageMaker, the utility used to put the installers together.

There is an easy cure for this - either delete the offending package receipts or, if you want to keep them, create a subfolder in Receipts and then just shove them in there. But, seriously, these files are doing absolutely no harm to the system other than the installer app getting its panties in a bunch when it looks in the folder.

My installers are based on Apples own PackageMaker with IceBerg frontend. Please direct your complaints there.

Unfortunately I currently have no time to give support to NFR users.
