Well latency is absolutely out of my control, so I'm afraid if I add "real-time" recording, people will just complain that it's pointless... I'll probably give it a try anyway and do my best to place the notes with some predictive quantizing. If it's usable, I'll put it in.Leslie wrote:Fair enough, but will it be possible to do the realtime recording (low latency, direct/realtime input) with Caustic anytime soon..? Or is asking for such feature on Android is pointless....?

Singlecell, I just wanted to say thanks for developing a great Android music app. Caustic, along with Reloop, Uloops, G-stomper, Electrum Drum, and Jasuto, are mature enough for me to be called music "tools" instead of just "toys".
Looking forward to MIDI export/import. And maybe the ability to independently save any of the rack presets within a pattern ... That way a song could have more variety than the stock 6 tracks currently available. In other words, if we were able to save Pattern A1 with a 909 kit, and Pattern B2 with an 808 kit, you could mix things up to go beyond the stock 6 sounds per song. You could have:
-- different drumsets/drumbreaks per song (although not within the same measure/pattern)
-- more than 2 PCM synths (which for now are the easiest way to get one-shot audio "loops" into a Caustic song_
-- several Subsynth presets, for pads/FX/riffs/etc
You wouldn't even have to make more banks, just the ability to save a rack preset and its settings as an independent pattern... This one ability, along with bigger community-created libraries of synth presets, drumkits, and PCM samples, could nearly make Caustic a one-stop-shop for song creation.
Of course, track volume/pan and filter/resonance automation would be a nice professional touch, but we could dream all day, eh?
Keep pushing the Android envelope.

Oh yeah, once MIDI is implemented, we could save libraries of beats. Just think of the possibilities of looping some industrial rock beats while auditioning the many different imported drumkits.
Or even hooking up your smartphone to your virtual or real synths, to audition sounds, or gasp, even record some keyboard noodling as a MIDI performance...
Okay, I'll shut up now.

Singlecell, I just noticed that there was a new update at Android Market. I couldn't find a list of fixes/new features in the description. You might consider update the text every time so not confuse people. Just a tip.

It's in the "Recent changes" section on your tablet Market or down at the bottom in the web based market. I'll make a new post here to list them too.jensa wrote:Singlecell, I just noticed that there was a new update at Android Market. I couldn't find a list of fixes/new features in the description. Consider it pushed a little further, the new update has 'em.psionic wrote: Of course, track volume/pan and filter/resonance automation would be a nice professional touch, but we could dream all day, eh?![]()

The "Recent changes/What's new" section doesn't seem to turn up for Caustic at the tablet market for my Xoom. Works for other apps. Though, it's there for my Samsung Galaxy S 9000.SingleCell wrote:It's in the "Recent changes" section on your tablet Market or down at the bottom in the web based market. Actually, I messed up. It's the other way around. The web market has a tab at the top for What's new.jensa wrote:The "Recent changes/What's new" section doesn't seem to turn up for Caustic at the tablet market for my Xoom. Works for other apps. In the phone market, you have to scroll to the end of the description..
But there's also a new "help" menu in the app that includes a "what's new" section as well, plus links to the tutorial videos.

Tried to install the Caustic on my Samsung Galaxy Ace but fails when installing. I take it, it doesn.t work on this model?

Caustic kept freezing on me.
So I went into Settings>Applications>Manage Applications and selected Caustic. The 'Force stop' option was available so I took it, knowing this means I lose my last save.
Tried similar options a number of times and in different ways - shutting down the app from the task manager, clearing memory, renaming the song I thought was causing the problem and starting the whole process over again...
Thought, feck it, and uninstalled Caustic then reinstalled, thinking I'd have to pay again.
It recognised I'd paid once and popped up an alert to tell me.
Now works like new.
Brilliant
I would have paid again..... thanks Rej - you are a star
Really enjoying this

Amazing App! Purchased it today and runs like a dream on my Galaxy Tab!
I was wondering when Android would get something this fancy

SingleCell, I really like what you've done! It's a great cell phone app. I registered via Androidpit.
Here are my three suggestions:
- Don't try to turn it into a full blown Reason competitor. Keep it using lower hardware requirements for cellphones. Add some key features, but don't over do it. I'd say you don't need any other instruments.....but adding a couple more waveforms for your Basslines would give more variety....an easier change.
- You mention running it under Win32 for your development. How about offering the Win32 version as a download for registered users? This gives the user the benefit of a larger work surface when at home, and still work on the cell phone when mobile.
- A .pdf manual would be beneficial. You made a good tutorial video, but a manual that can be referenced is easier to use in addressing specific questions.
I'm anxious to see what you come up with as the app grows.

I think the developer means he tests the android app under windows, in a testenviroment for android apps.mmelzer wrote:
