MEqualizer ASIO Overload

Hi All,
After recently demoing the MeldaProduction free bundle, I noticed an occasional popping sound within my DAW when using the MEqualizer plug-in. I was somewhat surprised when this ended up being the result of an ASIO overload, since my system is relatively powerful. After opening up a blank project, inserting an audio track, an instance of MEqualizer and dragging one of the filters around within the GUI, I was able to reproduce this phenomenon.

Does anyone else have a problem with this plug-in? What could be the potential cause of it? Thanks in advance for any help provided. I would like to keep using these plugs, but I generally dump any that exhibit unstable or erratic behavior within my DAW :(

Here are my system specs:
Cubase 5.5.2
Windows XP Pro SP3 (32-bit)
Q9400 Intel Core 2 Quad (2.66 GHz)
4 GB DDR2-800 RAM
Plug-in version 5.01

I've attached an image below. Interestingly, I haven't observed an ASIO spike when this happens (notice neither indication bar has filled up), rather, just an overload. I'm generally okay producing at a 256 sample buffer size, but I tried upping it to 512 and didn't see any difference.

Thanks again!

Hi,

this is pretty unusual. I would suppose it could happen with slower computers and sonogram enabled for example, but not like this. I think it may be caused by some background operation - for example an antivirus. Then when you move the bands too quickly, the drawing takes one core, and one is taken by the antivirus, which the host doesn't suspect. I'm personally a Cubase user and have no problems like this whatsoever even with lots and lots of plugins in a single instance and latency below 256 samples.

Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty sure there aren't any unnecessary background processes running (as I bought the computer optimized and pre-configured for audio production), although I won't rule it out the possibility. I'll continue to look into this and let you know if I find anything. Thanks again for your feedback.

Please also try a different host, maybe this stripped edition of Cubase has problems of some kind? Don't really know, the main testing host is Cubase 6, and moving bands never was a problem even in debug version, which is very very slow compared to the release one.

i hate to say it but i also have this problem whenever i run it and use more than 4 bands it just starts overloading i will try different oversampling but i am running

cubase 5
windows 7 64Bit
intel i7 quad core
8gigs of ddr3 ram
version 5.1
i tend not to update due to laziness but i heard their is a new update if i did would that help my problem

Yes, please update. Anyway I'm personally using pretty much the same configuration you do and I can use like 50 plugins per session without any problem (and eqs are pretty common there). When this happens, please try to use some audio, as all I can think could be a problem is denormalization, which may happen when you put in "silence", but it should be fine for a long time already.

i'm also having this problem with a few plugins i've tried. is there any fix for this yet?

specs: i7 2600k@4.5ghz, hd3000 graphics, 8gb ddr3 ram, ssd drive.

every other plugin i use works fine!

the problem is when i move the mouse over the plugins they freeze. i.e the spectrum analyzer won't display anything if i move the mouse over it, but its fine when the mouse isn't over it. and if i wave the mouse over them i get audio dropouts.

i'm using cubase 5.

What OS are you using? It looks like the host is taking all cores for processing, so there is none for graphics. Did you tweak the processing options?

windows 7 64bit. its a quad core processor with hyperthreading, so it runs at about 10% usage when i have a project open. i haven't even come close to overloading this processor, its really fast.

i haven't tried tweaking processing options, as all other plugins work fine. it seems to be a bug, as an i7 should be able to run 100 of these plugins with no problem, whereas this is choking on one plugin.

the plugin runs fine until i move the mouse over the interface, then it stutters.
