Techeverlasting -- Have you tried Kirk Hunter Pop/Rock strings ? I'm listened to the string parts from Eleanor Rigby demo'd on this VI and it sounds pretty good ..

Side note about Kirk Hunter. I have not got it to work on a Receptor yet. Its very strange because almost all Kontakt add-ons work. For some reason it does not get added to the Service Center even though the XML file is there. Kirk was trying to help me to no avail. Must be something deeper than I first thought.

I am looking for a good quality 88 key MIDI Controller that weighs 40 pounds or less, has a nice action (for piano) that will work well with Ivory 2 running on a Receptor 2+ PRO box ... it will be used mostly for gigging ... Can people make some recommendations ? I'd like to spend somewhere in the $1000 range -- but I could go higher for something really good ...
So far I've tried two and have been disappointed :
1) Fatar Studiologic Numa Nano - unit was completely defective ... I bought it because it was very light and someone at the midi-store.com said it was a great controller ... Fatar has a very weak reputation in the MIDI Controller area so it was probably not great judgement to try it
2) Kurzweil SP4-8 - again, this unit (the line just came out) had all kinds of technological problems that render it unusable .. surprising given Kurzweil's history and reputation -- but apparently the company has really fallen down in terms of quality ... they claim it is the successor to the SP88 but that now seems like pure hype ...
some people say the Yamaha CP33 works well -- though some of the Forums indicate people having problems getting a broad range of dynamics and a clear, clean sound ...

I'm not sure how much a Yamaha S90 weighs, but you should by able to get a used one for less than $1,000 and I don't think you'll do any better for controlling Ivory.
With regards to your earlier question about good string libraries for the Receptor, Sonivox is selling their Symphonic String library for $249, this might be for today only. Should load as a standard library in Kontakt 2 or higher without all that pesky authorization nonsense. Normally this library is $995, I highly recommend this deal.

Thanks for the info ... Which S90 are you referring to (I believe there are several) ...TechEverlasting wrote:I'm not sure how much a Yamaha S90 weighs, but you should by able to get a used one for less than $1,000 and I don't think you'll do any better for controlling Ivory.

Either the S-90 or S-90ES should work well, I believe they both have the same keybed along with ample switch and control pedal inputs which can be important. I would guess that the regular S-90 would be cheaper on the used market, I've seen them go for around $900. The S-90ES adds some ROM waveforms from the Motif ES series, I don't think that's going to be worth the extra money given what you're trying to do. I'm not sure if the newer S90XS has the same keybed, but it will cost a lot more.
