Well, I always hoped that one day Zebra gets sample playback module. It's not so much about using complex multisamples with lots of layers and round robins. For such things I would prefer a dedicated playback sampler like Kontakt. Single files would be enough! Of course in combination with Zebra's brilliant Osc FX.
Zebra is all about sound design. I've tons of self sampled stuff I put into Absynth. But IMHO Absynth's gui is a mess and the modulation routing is a bad joke!
Here are two quick examples made with Zebra layered with samples from Absynth: http://soundcloud.com/pocvecem/zebra-samples
I know the programming could be better and there's too much fx on the sounds but you should see what I mean.
I still love my old Yamaha SY99 for the combination of FM and simple sample playback.
Imagine what you could do with single samples and Zebra's OSC FX!
Oh yeah, I'm still dreaming...

For sure! - But I doubt that a million alone would cut it. Two developers over 3 or 4 years with two workspaces, plus advertisement and everything is simply more
Oh wow! That is amazing. I didnt realise the outlay was so much.

How has it worked previously? Surely you havent outlaid that much for your previous projects. I'm starting to think the music software business isnt all that viable.
Well, I've pretty much worked from a bedroom for 10 years or so. And of course there were small steps inbetween. Zebra 1.0 was very successful without being as complex as it nowadays is. Thus it could gradually evolve.

But the thing that I have in mind for sampling... starts rather big. Otherwise it doesn't make much sense...

Pfff! A sampler?! My Daw comes with one of those... who needs another sampler?

Now, if U-He were to make a pizza... That would be something!

Can it not be a joint NI/U-he project for example?

EDIT: Dumb idea. I take that back

"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

Urs, have you considered making a analogstyle drummachine? With all the magic in your synths, like having different models self-oscillating filters making bassdrums (Ace is GREAT for this) and all the magic in almighty bazille for hihats. While i like struggling with my low know-how in making drumsounds, and im sure i get unique sounds because of it, but having a special vsti for could possibly help a little. That said, i CAN sample with my sampling sampler, in real time .. ;) (Maschine)

You should try Alchemy, it's pretty much what I wanted Absynth to be.

Something Zebraish with sample playback would be really cool tho.

Yes, a sample playback engine in Zebra would be great and enough for me.
Maybe Mr. Grabowski (Extreme Sample Converter, Samplelord) can help with import/implementation of various sampler formats.
It`s not a bug... it`s a feature!

A cool thing with that is you can have a complex patch based on a sample and then just switch sample and get a totally different sound

A bit too much :wheee: and :hyper: for me in this thread

I don't like sampling in synths, except sampled waveform import, which Zebra can already do with waves2Zebra, or blubbery.
Zebra can do great sounds that can sometimes sound like they came from a sampler, and better. Better because you can alter more aspects of that sound, unlike samples. Samples can be altered more nowadays, but the results are less than tweaking normal oscillator synths can do.
Not to mention slower preset loading and dl sizes that comes with sample import.
