Ah, I see where you are coming from. I have no idea what the U-He business model is. I don't know how much he invests into each project nor do I know what kind of ROI he expects from each product per year. I do know how to make wild feature requests.

I don't really know the details either butjustin3am wrote:Ah, I see where you are coming from. I have no idea what the U-He business model is. if we get into Mr Spock mode for a while we only get 2 possible outcomes:Urs wrote:We have a phantastic idea for a sampler worked out in extraordinary detail.
If someone was to fund two developers for it, we could start working on it tomorrow, and we'd share the revenues.
I'm actually seriously considering to accept venture capital for this, but as it stands now I won't have time to devote for this myself, nor has Clemens.
If anyone has, say, an idle million or two... ping me.
1. It's the coolest sampler ever with unimaginable features or
2. He has lost his marbles.
I don't think he has lost it which leaves only 1 possibility which is why i'm so damn curious. What on earth could it be ? It must be something that pays back the investment which means its appeal must be pretty broad. And as i see it there's Kontakt and Alchemy who has divided the sampler market between them. What could possibly be interesting enough to enough people ?
But then again i haven't got the faintest idea how profitable the software instrument market is.

Have they? I could only speculate but I suspect that others may have significant portions of that pie as well. PLAY, VSL, Halion, Structure, Mach Five, EXS24, etc. You are probably right though; Alchemy and Kontakt are probably the only two which approach the sampler-as-a-synth concept as more than an after thought...jupiter8 wrote:And as i see it there's Kontakt and Alchemy who has divided the sampler market between them.
Thats what my boss always asks me when I come to him, with wacky ideas. Always a valid question. I know at least 10 people who would be interested. Will that be enough? What could possibly be interesting enough to enough people?
Yeah, me neither. I just have confidence that Urs knows what he's doing. But then again i haven't got the faintest idea how profitable the software instrument market is.

Omnisphere does a great job of this as well! How could you leave it out? We just need the ability to load our own samples into it...justin3am wrote:You are probably right though; Alchemy and Kontakt are probably the only two which approach the sampler-as-a-synth concept as more than an after thought...

I don't know the actual sales figures but to me there's 2 choices if you want a sampler:justin3am wrote:Have they? 1. Do "normal" stuff: Kontakt.
2. Do weird shit: Alchemy.
Alchmey doesn't do huge multi sampled orchestral stuff and Kontakt doesn't do all the wierd stuff possible with Alchemy. All the others you mentioned are just the ugly cousins from the country to Kontakt if you ask me. They each have a killer feature or 2 on Kontakt but overall Kontakt is Godzilla and the others Japan.
Exactly, that's why i'm so curious what he might have brewing in his lab,it must be something spectacular.justin3am wrote:Yeah, me neither. I just have confidence that Urs knows what he's doing. But then again i haven't got the faintest idea how profitable the software instrument market is.

That is why I left it out. I have a hard enough time considering Kontakt and Alchemy as samplers... considering they can't sample.rockin1 wrote:We just need the ability to load our own samples into it...
As far as I'm concerned (and this is purely opinion) there aren't any soft samplers out there that fit all my needs. I get by with what's available but I think there is a lot of room for growth in this area.

No, haha, I don't think I've lost my marbles.
Just think of it as something that is a sampler by accident. It would actually be something else, with the sampler being a nice side effect.
What it is? - I don't think a term has been properly coined yet. You could still call it a sampler or a sample editor, but that would be an understatement. It would have ancient relatives in supercollider or csound, but it would neither be as complicated nor anywhere as geeky. It would be a mass compatible sample-everything, call it MCSE if you want.
The driving idea would be creating a great frontend to rather young technologies, which have not yet been exploited in similar ways and which the old hosts and stuff won't be able to adapt, because they were built for another paradigm. A rather interesting but totally different idea popped up on YouTube recently where one guy demoed an application that played a song by manipulating just a sawtooth waveform in a 3D environment... the name slipped my memory... think of MCSE as a similarly radical approch of making a difference. But probably not with a 3D interface, and something totally different.

pity we can't work on it until everything else is done... and even if... I have the feeling that we'd rather do something else...

I think you're talking about AudioGL. It blew me away! (ear and eye candy starts at 10:55)Urs wrote:A rather interesting but totally different idea popped up on YouTube recently where one guy demoed an application that played a song by manipulating just a sawtooth waveform in a 3D environment.

Wooooo... :O Now that was .. a new way of looking at things! Not sure i would like to make tracks that way, but i sure like watching them being played!
I have to try that in XT, one osc from one synth and then just manipulated effects

Maybe Mr. Grabowski (Extreme Sample Converter, Samplelord) can help with import/implementation of various sampler formats.
