If a billion people believe a stupid thing it is still a stupid thing

Post

I love when people have the balls to post stuff like this. I've been feeling the same way for a while now.

NI has most of my money and I love em but the website is a pain in my arse.

Post

All kinds of interpretations around html5 vs flash make for interesting reading...

While HTML5 has a lot going for it..it is not quite the panacea some are calling it..at least to my eyes....

One reason is that I'm an absolute "open link in new tab" browser-guy to be able to switch back quickly to the tab where I came from.
Most (if not all ?) flash sites don't let me do that, I get this stupid flash settings menu instead if I rightclick a link.

Oh and while I'm at it, I also hate embedded flash music players that don't have a volume control, because the volume control on my amp is broken currently. :tantrum:

Thanks for reading. :D
dude what ancient computer you have? What kind of alienated browser you use? I've never saw anything like it. I can open 50 flash websites and each have it's own tab. I can absolutely "open link in new tab" with flash website. Since i do this for living i can tell you immediately that if this is unsupported then it's developer (person who did website) flaw not Flash flaw. It is simple window state. Open in "_blank" and that's it. Almost same as in HTML language. Excuse me of course if i don't understand what are you claiming. Maybe i don't understand you.
This is what I get when trying to rightclick a link on NI's website (FF5.0, latest flash)

Am I doing something wrong then ?
Oh and while i am at it, embedded flash music player can have absolute control (level, whatever) - again it is up to developer not up to Flash. In case you didn't noticed NI player have volume control. It is quite obvious actually.

I know that embedded flash music players CAN have volume controls, and I wasn't referring to NI's site in particular.
Just saying that I don't like when there's non implemented.
bandcamp.com being one example (or I'm just being blind and haven't found it yet)

What do you want it to do? Play?Right clicking it will only give you info on the thing itself, and if you have the dang thing installed...sheeesh.

How about left clicking the thing?

How about having the NI forum open in one tab while browsing new products in another (just as example).
Sure, I could open another blank tab and load the NI page there again, but with a HTML page I'd simply rightclick a link -> open in new tab.

I want it to open in another tab when I middle click (with the scroller) like an HTML link would.

On my Google Chrome I rightclick on the tab, not on the site itself, just the tab...there is a dialog box that opens up and on it there is "Duplicate"....I click that and I get the exact same webpage....

But in Firefox a single middle click opens an HTML link in a new tab ... I like that. It doesn't work with flash sites.

That also works in FF, I tend to forget about it, so thanks for mentioning it.

But rightclicking on a link -> open in new tab (or scrollwheel-click) is something I do so often (I usually have several tabs open from a specific site), it distracts me everytime when this is not working on a flash site. I know, little thing actually, but I still find it annoying.

Me too. Makes browsing sites ten times easier and quicker when you can open "sub-pages" in tabs and then wander through them one by one.

I didn't know about that scrollwheel-click shortcut in FF - excellent! :)

If HTML5 delivers everything what Flash can and if it improve compatibility for all devices then i am voting for it :)

Anyway or other i think NI site is pretty ok. For all "new tab" whiners - i think you are in fun club of Nicolas Cage

Just kidding with you guys :)

Post

The other thing about Flash sites is that you can't post a direct link to a sub-page (most Flash sites, anyway), so if you want to show someone something specific on a Flash site, you have to tell them how to get to the page you want them to see.

It used to drive me crazy when a friend of mine would post a link to the Cadbury Creme Egg site and I landed on the main site, not the page she wanted me to see, and she wouldn't give any indication of what it was I was looking for.

At least on NI's site you can post direct links.

Still, I hate it...almost as much as I hate Comcast's, Adobe's, and Microsoft's pages. Slowest on the net!

(I'm a new tabber, too. :P )

We are talking about Flash menus that are often used when a web designer wants to have animations, boingboing symbols etc. You CAN NOT open them in a new window/tab with a right click or similar.
