Uncle E wrote:As much as I really think the Blue Angel is one of the finest amps I've ever played, I'm afraid to play it too much these days because my tech told me that if something goes wrong, you have to replace the entire board. According to him, Boogie epoxied the boards. What are your thoughts on that?
Can't confirm that, fortunately.

It might be a partial misunderstanding, there's a small epoxy grey "black box" called mojo module, housing something like a preset Boogie EQ afaik.
Apparently newer models didn't have the epoxy, so you should be able to find out.
Anyway, these amps are built like tanks, I wouldn't worry.
Two potential weak spots I know of, the switching jacks of the loop (like on all Boogies from that period) and the tube mode switch in front, nothing terrifying.

Very nice! Thanks!

In that case, maybe I'll be able to get mine modded after all. I've always wanted to have the footswitch modded to simultaneously turn off the reverb, turn on the fat switch, and bypass the mid EQ. Voila, channel switching!

Worth a try, though I personally get by just fine as it is with a Horny Bee and a delay in front, in bright mode.

Btw, just scored a nice 212 cab, open back, solid pine with plywood baffle, 1 Private Jack, 1 Legend - like new, costs as much as a single speaker. :wheee:

Jeff Genzler, the founder of Genz Benz, wrote back to me and told me I can substitute in a 5U4 rectifier to try to get more sag. First off, how cool is it that the founder of the company wrote back to me 24 hours later simply from receiving an e-mail through their site? JRR isn't even a Genz Benz dealer! Anyway, I'll give that a shot soon and will bring home my attenuator, hopefully those two things will give me the squash I'm missing from that amp.

p.s. Hink, my Black Pearl 30 cost me $600 used. Considering the amazing tone and the $250 speaker it's loaded with, I really think it's a bargain.

maybe not as big of a company but Jim Frenzel answered me within hours himself from my first email that was just a question on his amps, we shared several emails back and forth...now I'm listed on his page http://www.frenzeltubeamps.com/page33.php

I bet Mr Kelley (with the extra "e" ) would be helpful, too, in case you have any questions.

Eric, I should be so lucky to find such deals at the right time...in a pm quite a while ago I explained the only exception to my rule but basically I do not whip out plastic for things I want. The exception which isn't really an exception is I will take advantage of places that spread the payments over 3,4,5 or 6 months and then it's taken from my bank account where I know the money will be there and the only interest (albiet very tiny) is going in my pocket.

Unfortunately I know too many people (and one very, very blatant abuser) who have over extended for gear and unfortunately stores I worked for encouraged us to try and get credit for people as well to make sales. So I'm pretty stuck to this rule. Trust me this takes discipline, I could buy most anything I could want but I do not want to pay more for interest and be in debt for extended periods of time for 'wants'.

When I have the extra cash (which if I'm lucky is quarterly but lately more like every six months) I never find such deals...it's like they know

The "super" part is the only thing I don't love. A singer dented my car when doing me the favor of loading it. :-/

You let a singer handle valuable gear ? :-o
What's next ? A keyboard player doing your tax ?
Ok, granted, since the Japanese invented the intelligent keyboard this might actually be possible, dunno.
Btw, the car was damaged, not the Angel.
What does that tell you ? :P
