I have yet to find a sound that it can't do that i normally go for with my synthesizers, and it's such a breeze to navigate!
check out some of my latest work here if you're interested to hear the sort of sounds i create:

Anyone else in the same boat? I just find that no one synth compares to Zebra.

warm,
"Singularity" (You must be into physics?) & "Base Jump" sounds nice. Recently I downloaded someone's Zebra patches off the internet & surprised to find a good Moog-like lead sound. First one that I'd heard that sounded so much like such a thing (from the Zebra).

Could you tell us the patch name or set it's in?aaron aardvark wrote:warm,

I really like the Voyage of the Beagle. Nice work. It's a great showcase for Zebra. You might ask Urs if he'd like to upload it to the U-He site.

I was afraid someone was going to ask me that! I think I downloaded most all of Zebra patches that are available on the main u-he patch website.......and it could have been one of the recent 2.5.2 patches, maybe/probably one of the recent teaser free patches from someone who sells Zebra patches. I don't remember. I must have several hundred Zebra patches by others. Maybe more than a thousand. If I come across it again, I'll try to remember to point it out here in the future.mcnoone wrote:Could you tell us the patch name or set it's in?aaron aardvark wrote:warm,

I don't use Zebra exclusively, but it is my main synth because of its amazing versatility... I also use Bazille quite a bit... along with ACE and some of the AAS stuff
Also been sampling Zebra in Geist quite a lot... Zebra is a remarkable drum synth

Totally true, there was a Zebra patch design contest awhile back that was solely focused on drums and it yielded amazing, very musically usable results. I can't remember everyone who entered, but they all did some really cool stuff.pdxindy wrote: Also been sampling Zebra in Geist quite a lot... Zebra is a remarkable drum synth

I haven't used analog-style synth for percussion since the 70's. This is something that interests me now and I'll have to check it out. I have ACE, Massive and Omnisphere. I hear Omnisphere and Massive are both great for percussion.

Zebra can do classic analog style percussion, but it can also do FM as well as modeling many realistic sounds... You have remarkable control over the attack of a sound. Here is an old sound still up on my server. A sharply struck bell. It takes a lot of fine control for this sort of ringing/beating decay to sound natural too. That is the Zebra osc's and not effects. This is just one example I had on hand...Gonga wrote:I haven't used analog-style synth for percussion since the 70's. This is something that interests me now and I'll have to check it out. I do not have Omnisphere so cannot comment, but I do have Massive and while it is sweet for some kinds of percussion it is nowhere near the level of overall versatility of Zebra. Massive does not have enough control over the envelopes and of course it does not have the comb module like Zebra, nor FM, nor the semi-modular structure which gives Zebra so much flexibility.
Oh and here is an audio clip from a single Zebra preset... kinda percussive and distorted... gonna sample different notes and modulations into Geist

Massive has a Comb filter, though.

Quite a few synths have comb filters, but that is far from the powerful versatility of the comb modules in ZebraEvilDragon wrote:Massive has a Comb filter, though.

That's true, though.

Zebra is my favorite synth by far. Besides Zebra though, I consider these to be my desert island synths: ACE, Rapture, Z3ta+ version 2 (just came out). I also really like Tyrell.

I am using only Zebra for everything but i feel the lack of the analogue warm punch that i felt when i've tried ACE (maybe cause my sound design skills are far from good)
