Ah, here we go -- browsing the preset list uses the arrow keys. They behave as expected whether "Give all keystrokes to Plug-in" is on or off, both in the Patches page and in the Save Preset dialog, as long as Zebra has the keyboard focus. When Sonar has the focus, the arrow keys select tracks, etc.

Here's where it gets weird. With the Save Preset dialog up, some keystrokes type into the text fields, or do some other function, while other keystrokes trigger Sonar functions. For instance, with "Give all keystrokes to Plug-in" turned on and Save Preset displayed, the Spacebar will type a space in whichever field is active; when "Give all" is off, Spacebar toggles Sonar's playback on and off. These two behaviors are as expected.

However, in the same situation the "T" key doesn't type a "T", it toggles X1's tool pop-up on and off, its usual function in Sonar. Likewise, "A" brings up AudioSnap, "H" the Track Manager, and so on -- which should happen only when "Give all" is turned off.

That's under Sonar X1. In Sonar 8.5 the behavior seems normal. In either version, commands with modifier keys, such as "Ctrl-O" or "Shift-F6", invoke the appropriate Sonar functions regardless of whether "Give all" is on or off.

Hope this helps. I can go into more depth if need be, run a test build with logging, etc.
Hi Meffy, I am new here in the Forum and experiencing the same problem. Could you tell me please how do you turn on and off "Give all keystrokes to Plug-in" within Sonar X1? I know, it might be an obvious thing for others but I don't have any idea where to find this function within Sonar X1. Can you help? Many thanks for your help,

Paul

Click the little button that looks like a keyboard in upper right of the plug-in's window, between the "X" button to close the window and the "Zebra" name. When it's blue, "Give all keystrokes to plug-in" is enabled.

If above Zebra's GUI you see a plain, stippled bar with no controls on the right side, you're running the 32-bit Zebra in 64-bit Sonar. I have only the 32-bit demo on my system but given the way other plug-ins behave, you should see the same controls if you run 64 on 64, so to speak.

Even with it on though this bug is still there. For now if you want to enter text in Zebra keep a copy of Notepad open, write into that and copy/paste it into Zebra - slower but it works

Yes.

Million thanks, Meffy! I was actually thinking about implementing the Notepad but didn't get a chance to get to it yet. Last night I woke up and thought .....hmmmmm.... what about the Notepad(?). But I didn't know if it would work or not and if Sonar would allow me to paste something from the Notepad. Well, apparently we can do that. Even though the bug is still there, at least we have some way to go around it. It's slow, but never the less, it's a possibility. Looking forward to see when Cakewalk will fix this bug. BTW, I am running Zebra2 64bit and everything works great except for this naming the patches business.

Thanks again for your help. I do appreciate. Hope you have a great weekend!

The Sonar X1c update came out today. On my system (Win 7 x64 running Sonar X1c x64) the problem remains the same, i.e., the "release keystrokes to plugin" button does not in fact release all the keystrokes assigned as Sonar shortcuts. So Cakewalk still needs to fix this. In the meantime, the workaround of pasting in the text for new patchnames from Notepad still works.

I'm having the same problem, but it seems to only occur with the Uhbiks and ACE. I know I can save patches in most of my other plugs...I'll do some more testing. By the way, the page where you can edit these settings in SONAR is all screwey...when I make global changes to turn the "key bindings" off entirely, it has no effect, which makes it seem like a SONAR bug, but for some reason it only seems to affect my U-He plugs :?

[EDIT] As Meffy reported the keystrokes work OK for browsing presets and such, but the trouble seems to center around the pop up Save dialog box. Since this is where you register, I had a crazy time registering until I figured out the copy and paste workaround!

The save dialogs work in all my other plugs except those that have none, such as Minimogue LUXUS. For these here's another workaround, which is to use the rather primitive SONAR plug-in menu under the title bar for saving and loading banks and presets, but as SONAR users know it's mostly there for plugs that don't have any save dialogs at all and it's a PITA.

Just for the record, the latest (and likely last) patch for SONAR X2 still has this problem. I e-mailed about it...again...just so they know it's an ongoing problem for all U-He users.
