Hi all,

Recent MULAB convert here, trying to figure out the sequencer slowly. My first question is: I seem to be having trouble recording samples chopped in Shortcircuit (first version; the second won't work) into the sequencer as MIDI. I can play the keys that correspond to slices in each sample, but when pressing record no audio is transferred to MULAB.

Is there a compatibility issue? I know MULAB has it's own sampler, which I use for synth samples, but it appears unusable where chopping drum samples (i.e an Amen break) is concerned. These are short observations; I haven't yet had time to explore further.

Any help greatly appreciated! :)

Cheers,
Muttley.

I am not entirely sure that I understand what you want to achieve.

I don't know Shortcircuit, but I downloaded it and took a look. Nice one which I might keep!

I asume you want to play a REX file in MuLab with the slices triggered by midi notes.
Load Shortcircuit into the 1st slot in Rack1.
Create a sequence in Track1 and route it to Rack1 (right click, Choose Target Module).
Now you have to create the midi notes that trigger your slices.
In Reason you can let the Dr. Rex player create the midi notes. I could not find such function in Shortcircuit. So, it's up to you to create the correct note start and note length for each slice, or get this data from a midi file that came with the Rex loop. MuLab can't do this for you as the slices are only known by Shortcircut and only Shortcircuit can create the midi notes.
I used a loop where each slice was 1/16 long, manually created 16 16th notes starting from C1 up to D#2 and this plays nicely.

If you want to record this loop as audio, right click on the waveform next to the Record button in the transport panel and setup your recording. Give the recording a name, choose Rack1 for the "Record From", leave Monitor To as None and close this window. Then position the transport to the start of your midi sequence and simply press record.

I hope this answers your question.

Hi Andreas,

Thanks very much for the help. Your suggestions have enabled me to record the samples in Shortcircuit as MIDI in MULAB - what I wanted to achieve. I don't use Rex files - I'm editing in notes and having the Shortcircuit window open at the same time so I can see what I'm triggering from the slices. There may be variants of this method that are quicker but as a starting point I'm just happy to be able to work it.

Glad you liked the VST. :D
