Multitasking IOS apps?

What multitasking audio apps are out for IOS / iPad? I was looking at StepPolyArp and it said its multitasking and creates a virtual port that another Core Midi compatible multitasking app could use.. It appears that Sunriser, Nlog Pro, iMS20 are not....

Beatmaker 2 is the only sequencer I know of that multitasks.... iSyn Poly, Additive synth, and Argon are synths that are, and play in real time with BM2. Molten, a beat box, is as well. ALso "Tempo Advance" is, and it is a metronome. This is cool because you can use it with synths that do not have a metronome.....

No. I think at this point it is a limitation in the OS itself ( I may be wrong about that) but some say something could be in the works to change that, Apple adding core midi and core audio was huge, so perhaps there is more goodness to come. I must also confess that with Steve gone, I am afraid continued innovation is in question...... Love him or hate him he took apple from the brink of death to where they are today, bigger than Intel and Microsoft combined.

Also BassLine, MO Drum and latest addition rather excellent Genome - Midi sequencer.
Expect more coming i.e NLog Pro and Sound Prism (both in final Beta) will also feature background Audio and virtual Midi...
Exciting times ahead for iOS users indeed.
Btw; Addictive Synth and iSyn Poly do NOT multitask, I don't have Argon, but I do have Xenon from the same Developer and that doesn't work either

Yes they do. Addictive, iSyn Poly and Argon. They work with BM2 on my iPad2. You just have to start them as the first thing when you open your iPad and then start BM2. If you start BM2 first and then the synts, they won't work.Leslie wrote:Btw; Addictive Synth and iSyn Poly do NOT multitask, I don't have Argon, but I do have Xenon from the same Developer and that doesn't work either
Try this: Open iSyn Poly -> close it again -> Open BM2 -> open iSyn Poly
and you should be ready to go.

Nope, it only proves that BM2 can multitask and not other way around.
As soon as you minimize any of these apps, they stop audio and midi - very different to the proper behavior of apps like MO Drum and BassLine
Btw; This is what true midi/audio multitasking is all about:

Not entirely correct. Even if your app is not able to stream background audio it still needs to have multitasking to work with other background audio apps. Thus you can either make your app 1) able to work with background streaming apps 2) make it a background audio app itself or 3) both. Ask kuniklo, he is just implementing it on Grainbender. That is also the reason why BM2 won't work with all synts. At the end of the day, I can run BM2 in the background while playing and recording on iSyn and Addictive. I can not time sync their sequensers to BM2, but I can sure have BM2 running in the background while playing the synths manually or manually trigger their sequensers and that is all I need.Leslie wrote:Nope, it only proves that BM2 can multitask and not other way around.

I think you are missing the point here and didn't even bother to look at the links attached in my previous post.
The multitasking idea between music apps is more about virtual midi implementation and not just about background audio.
Let's say I have midi sequencer (Genome), drum machine (MODrum) and couple of (non existing yet) synths that I can record and sync to Genome, get it?
Currently only Genome, MODrum, Bassline and Gruvtron allow this to happen with NLog coming soon.
For me this is exactly the same principle as using Cubase in tandem with Reason and multiple VSTis.
Just jamming to the sound of other app is like listening to iPod while surfing the net...

Wrong! Virtual midi has just been implementet in a few apps recently. Until now multitasking has been about background audio. And I already knew about your links.Leslie wrote:The multitasking idea between music apps is more about virtual midi implementation and not just about background audio.
But I am not trying to have an argument with you here, which I believe you think I am, since you are using an offending tone. What is important to me is that people are not misled by misinformation and in this respect, the facts about iSyn Poly, Addictive and Argon are that they
1) have multitasking in form of backround audio and thus can run with BM2, Molten and Funkbox running in the background.
2) They do not have multitasking in terms of virtual midi ports, but most multitasking apps haven't at this stage.
Then the disagreements should be over, right? Unless you want to make it a discussion of terminology. In that case call it what you want as long as you do not deny 1).

Soundprism Pro is only $16, not bad for a midi controller.
