Charlatan Charlatan - Time Capsule

Post

I'm working on another track using Charlatan. Now, a more well-finished one.
The song is almost ready and soon I'll post it here. :hihi:

Sorry for my english, i'm from Brazil.

Been playing with it for some time, and was able to make some cool basses. I tried some of the presets posted here, to great results! (fortunately it works in Psycle like a charm now!). Color scheme is ok to me.

Really cool plugin. Simple and straightforward. Thanks to the developer!

I thought I had all my bases covered and, to be honest, I don't think Charlatan does anything that, say, AAS Ultra Analog doesn't, but: I'm really enjoying the simplicity of Charlatan. I can load it up in seconds and just use it, layout is classic enough that I don't really have to think about what I'm after. I guess it's a little like that old acoustic you keep around that you can just grab and play without thinking about what effects chain your going to be using or whatever. And it sounds fine too. Damn fine in fact.

1.0rc1 is out including fix for Orion crash! Please test thoroughly as it's supposed to be the last release before 1.0. Thanks!

Thanks, being a guitar player myself, I have to say I like this analogy!

Uploaded it to my webspace again: http://www.bronto-scorpio-music.com/Dow ... 1.0rc1.zip :)

Yes :D

Played with it last 2 hours. 95% of that time I (could not resist and) used dual or quad setup, and that produced amazingly fine sound! :wheee:
In fact, all the time I was just thinking if there is some programming magic that can multiply this wonderful thing without too much CPU consumption...

Anyway: Dominique, thanks A LOT! It is a pure relaxation and a pleasure to tweak and to listen your synth!

P.S. This is of course irrelevant, but I somehow think that the pressed knobs should have some gentle warm yellow color, just to attenuate the "cold" visual impression made by dominant red and white (in combination with metallic gray and black). Nevertheless, the GUI is simply ok.

pleased that this still loads in the previous test projects
- you have to delete previous version, or that is what loads,
though - ( which is good )

can the preset banks be included on load? not a big deal, but most are useful
standard patches. would be good to have a little split menu offering them as
separate banks. (this would make saving edited banks a lot slicker, because
they'd already be split into categories ;-) you'll prob' get a lot(?..) more user banks
uploaded this way), and it's a minor drag to have to load a bank when you start
the plugin. alternatively, you might choose to see this as an advantage, to
avoid hearing the same sound each time you load...

from me, the same quibble as before regarding parameters not showing up
in key edit page (Orion 7.6). seem to automate fine though. with a workhorse
synth like this, it is an essential feature to be able to draw in and edit parameter
curves.

good sound. you can get several instances running along together no problem,
without conflicting. very usable little synth. definitely a keeper - if you sort the
parameter show thing.

hopefully what you've put together here will serve as the basis for future
synths, with more of everything!!

Today I tested it a little more, and in the process I made 32 - well lets say - classic patches (vstpreset format). As I want to give these, where should I upload (or send) them?

I recommend you to make a Mediafire account, you can track the number of downloads.
Or upload them to KVR banks.

Have a good day :)

I "wasted" some time converting vstpresets to fxb, but in the way I polished some patches...

Charlatan is not yet on the KVR list of plugins... So I asked where to send these. I think the author or Dennis should know what to do with them, so I guess PM contact would be ok, with some e-mail where I can send the patches.

Waiting for PM... hope to hear you soon :)

I'm just trying it in FLstudio 10. Is it supposed to have slightly unstable pitch? It's quite obvious on the default setting. Is it intentional to create some analogue unpredictability?

I'm not sure I understand all of your suggestions correctly, but I have to make clear that Charlatan's preset management is handled entirely by the host application. It seems that at least some of your suggestions might not be doable without implementing a fully custom preset management which requires lots of work. Since I'm personally ok with the current state this would have a rather low priority on my TODO list ... this is not to say it will never happen of course!

I will look into this. Not sure if I it will be fixed in 1.0.

Well, the hole idea of Charlatan to keep it simple and limit features to the bare essentials. If you want "more of everything" I think there are already TONS of plugins out there ... Simplicity and easy tweakability is a, or maybe THE feature of Charlatan.
