Save the preset as a new one.
New name so not to overwrite the old one of course.

That is ok for saving.

Let's say I'm composing a song, and need to browse through 20 presets. How can I maintain the same tuning while composing?

You can't...yet.

It's one of those things on our ever growing to do list... "locking" parameters such as micro tuning.

YES. To be able to lock Arp and Microtuning would be realy nice. Do it soon
