hey smart did I tell you to f**k off? don't think so huh? but if that's the extent of you communication skills, so be it.
and as far as getting after you for things you said or did not say... let us be honest and clear:
you DID say FL did the same things which it does not.
[if you meant it does ONLY some similar things via layering then your original statement was not really accurate]
as far as 'starting a war about apps vs. apps'... you clearly started that thought here... this thread had no mention of anything like that before your post.. anyone can read back and figure it out, huh?
this thread was started to try and find out what has become of xlutop and Thomas so why introduce other subjects? You could have started a whole new thread about those ideas, no?
I see you love FL... ok, good then... It's a great app... but others may use other hosts for their work and if they do they will find chainer invaluable...[as you can see from a few other posts here]
NEXT
for those that find the demo of Chainer all they need let me suggest something:
I also thought this for a short time... but then I just had to have it's ability to save presets and I can't tell you how much of a diff that makes to the way you can work with it. I have no stake in the sales of Chainer at all but I will tell you clearly that the price of it is the BESTmoney I've ever spent on any app.
NEXT
for the question about the preset Lab... yes and no, ... it's not just randomization of presets though it does include that feature also.. and includes it in a more controllable way than just simple randomizing.
the preset Lab will allow you to morph a given percentage between any two existing presets [in well behaved vsti's]
this feature along is worth the price of Chainer to a sound designer, as it lets you create new presets from the morphs very quickly. btw, this feature is fully working in the demo for free.
But again ... I didn't start this thread to discuss Chainer's features and uses... another thread would be good to do that with...
Can we try to get back On Topic now?

It's a shame that there has been no response to inquiries for Chainer. I use the demo nearly every day. I had planned on buying it, but I was holding off for a sign of life. I hate buying into something so late that it's worthless in less than a year. I guess I should be used to that though. My computer gets a face lift evey 6 months. I wounder if the developer came here and stated that he was actively working on the next version, and there would be an inexpensive upgrade price for existing owners, how many people would buy it immediately? I know I would. It's just a handy host to have when I don't feel like opening up Nuendo. It's simple, and it works. If it had a future, I'd buy it.

I agree with Max and others,
and think Chainer single-handedly revolutionized quick previews of VSTis, particularly some bloatware ones that were too CPU intensive to run right on some computers.
Ergonomically Chainer is immediately available, intuitive and professional-looking. The first day I tried Chainer I was stressed-out and wasn't at my mental best, and I got right into Chainer with no difficulties.
Dealing with Fruity Loops is too much of a traumatic Fruity experience for me
with all due respect to smart, I'm just not homo enough to use Fruity loops. I can't seem to find paisley chaps around here
Chainer is the all-purpose Swiss Army knife and it's ESSENTIAL in any DAW at any price. That and Vincent Burel's Freeware DX adapter. The CPU is so low and the performance o quick and intuitive (and the app is deep when you start to look around) that the "host" is no longer creativity's big choke.
Hey one thing - if anyone's considering buying Chainer - do it now - see if they answer at that point
Maybe Thomas is on the phone after all

Forte Ensemble 1.4 is pretty stable here although it doesn't launch as fast as Chainer.

Ok., Thomas/Xlutop didn´t answer in this thread once again, so I think he isn´t in the business anymore.

Acesys,.... yeppers.. I agree completely... the VB rack inside chainer is actually a trick I found and told Thomas about, as well as posting that way to run DX's in Chainer around the forums.... way nice trick.
I see at least a few others here who understand much of what it can do and who appreciate it's functions.
I had hopes for forte ensemb. but so far it's not nearly as handy as Chainer for my own uses.
Here is a request for some Help
Does anyone on this thread live in, or near Germany, and speak German? If YOU do, would you please call Thomas and find out what is going on? If you can't find the phone via the whois page, let me know and I'll get it to you.
******************************************
I do recall this from my latter email with Thomas:
He was in school under a very heavy work load and I think also working a job as well, therefore he felt he had almost no time to deal with other things. This could still be the case.
I think Chainer sales could and would increase IF two things were done:
1) lower the price a little... say to $40 [a fast nickel is better than a slow dime, right?]
2) get a real review of it done in one of the major audio magazines...
A half-assed review was done sometime ago but it was really a joke... It barely touched on the really important features and possible uses of Chainer and mainly served the magazines own needs to use Chainer to export a wav file sample for use in their own vsti. Very much a rip off by them of Chainer's abilities.
3) IF.. the expected update came out with the features I've mentioned, [the ability to more easily share presets between users]... I think it would boost sales dramatically.
thanks to all for any help on this!

I bought Chainer and have been (and continue to be) very satisfied. Go buy it. It's only $50...how can that NOT be worth it?
There's only one thing missing: You can't set up key splits, so there's no easy way for a single live keyboard to play different sounds/layers on different parts of the keyboard.
Xlutop said it would be in the next version. That was many months ago.

i agree with smart. as a reg. owner of both chainer and FL studio, I find that FL is a much better vsti host. even though FL can't reder to sf2 or what not, as far as a gigging vsti host, FL is more stable and efficient. I've used thm both on gigs (i play clubs in and around london every weekend) with a wx5 wind controller, and the latency and "feel" of FL is much better by comparison.
as a vsti host, the main thing that i needed was to be able to adjust the curve of the control to the knobs. that way, one cc# can control, say, 5 different parameters in 5 completely different ways. nothing else does this except FL studio.
when i need some type of visual feedback concerning CC info, i can use the dashboard to make a display that is specific to my needs, and fl comes with a few useable instruments and effects right out of the box.
layers, keyboard splits, arpegiators, and it runs great even on old machines, not to mention that their forums are fantastic. chainer is "nice", but FL studio is more versatile, IMO.

Hi
Its a shame when people who use a product want some kind of closure or at least a good-bye; that looks increasingly unlikely.
I don't suppose anyone is going to be happy if he posts here and says look its over, no further development and i should have said so a year ago.
We all know the longer you leave something the less likely you are to return to it.
On the bright side the product should still be pretty usable for the conceivable future.
Perhaps someone will develop a similar product; it would certainly make a change from the endless amount of subtractive synths that hit the market every month.
Thinking about it I just started to imagine some of the enhancements that the next version might of had, An Arp/Riff player for auditioning synths, a multi synth combined patch randomizer......perhaps I now realize why it is necessary to contact him and get him back on track!!!
Flipper.

I'm one of chainer's biggeest fans but do have to say it looks like I may never use it again because of XT. XT has all those 'future features' you talk about and IMHO is much more flexible (and is a bit cheaper).
Not to mention that it's still under development and all the best ideas seem to actaully get implemented. Imagine that.

I agree, energyXT is brilliant... but I still use Chainer as a standalone VST host all of the time. Why? Stability and compatibility! It is amazingly robust! eXT's standalone mode and ASIO driver is still flaky in a variety of ways... from crackles/CPU spikes when moving VST user interfaces, to random p00fs or just strange unexpected behavior in general. But, much of this fades away when I load energyXT *inside* of Chainer.
Best of both worlds.
