@rexlapin
Thanks, I knew I had seen the wire settings somewhere before!

@justin3am
Thanks for the explanation! That basically corresponds to what my ears are hearing. I was like why does this saw sound like a sine? :lol:

And thanks for the advice! I had been doing some of what you suggested and I was also using an osc to feed the sample and hold, but I didn't realize the shape effected it .:oops:

I can get close to the sound I want using a 10s rand hold LFO to feed the trigger on the S+H and run the sequencer in and out of the S+H. Using an osc at hertz or something should be even better. It's too bad the display always shows 1-24 no mater what setting you have the osc on.

Self generative was the wrong phrase, more like random enough sounding to keep your interest, not so random as to sound like noise. :lol: I like noise, don't get me wrong, but I was trying to get results that are a little more "musical" for lack of a better term. They are easy enough to do in Aalto or Numerology.

I think part of it is just the price you pay for power, but I wonder if the ease of one program over the other in getting these specific kinds of results has anything to do with the underlying systems they are inspired by?

I can get the sound I want in numerology by using multiple lfos at different rates on the shift pattern left and right functions and applying slight modulation to the speed and octave, but I want to work this out in Bazille just for education's sake. Plus, I'm failing into a bunch of useful sounds. :)

To increase the range available in the Osc section, you can set the fine tune knob to "Multiply" mode. With the multiplication ( clockwise) and division (counter-clockwise), it really opens it up to get all kinds of values.

ah man i know exactly what you mean, extremely organic buchla esque movement can be a bit tricky to get out of bazille. really getting a good idea of what you can do with the lag generators makes for pretty natural sweeps and bubbly modulation but i always end up using up a lot of modules to get there. bazille is excellent at doing choppy radio intereference type movement though, easily achieved with random glide lfo and the sequencer (maybe modding itself). i use it all the time for my more industrial techno projects <3.

Are you going to sell a variety of strange random modules - similar to the kind of odd experimental modules companies like wiard, metasonix, livewire, make noise, the harvest man? etc...

Would be really fantastic to get to use these kinds of things and experiment without the cost, with polyphony and patch recall.

Having fun with the alpha but I can't for the life of me work out how to assign LFOs. Any hints?

PeteJames,
There are output jacks on the left hand side
of the GUI. IIRC LFO is normalled to Vibrato
but you can plug a cable into these jacks on
one end and then on the other end into any of
the modulation (...) inputs.
I hope that helps!
Cheers,
Scott

Thanks scott. I think the issue I was having is that the LFO depth mod seems to work backwards - so 0 is max modulation and full mod is 100 - I think the default was 100 on the init patch so I couldn't work out why I couldn't hear it.

I have a small bug/issue for urs - don't know if it's been mentioned. Upon open the gui is the too big for the window of some of it is cut off. If you then resize to something and back to normal it works fine. Running 10.6.8 ableton 8.2.5 vst version.

Also does anyone else think it sounds too similar to zebra - sounds nice and poweful but quite digital and sharp/harsh in the high end? That analogue style sequencer is sweet btw. Could do with a more 16 note ones if there's space :)

Seems not too far off ready - this year perhaps?

@Justin3am:

Every time I see you post, I end up spending a couple hours on your soundcloud.

In fact, the depth control in the LFO section relates to how the depth of the LFO is modulated. By default the LFO amp mod is assigned to the mod wheel, so if the LFO amp mod is set to 100% and your mod wheel is turned all the way down, then modulation will be scaled to zero. By turning the LFO amp mod to 0% you are just telling the LFO not to respond to the mod wheel. Hope that makes sense.

edit: forgot to mention that LFO1 is normalled to control oscillator pitch via the Vibrato control. If you plan on using LFO1 to control a filter or something, make sure you turn the Vibrato depth off.

+1 for strange, random modules! The Wiard Woggle Bug and NoiseRing are two of my favorite modulation sources. I have all the parts to build a ChaQuO next.

Good free advertising :) Listening right now, me like!

Cool logo, made my head trippy before even listening ;)

Ah I understand now, thanks!

I hope the alpha will stay free for some more weeks since I'm just finishing my Bazille bank :)
I'll post an audio demo later today!
The ACE, Zebra and Zebrify banks will come after that :)

Cheers

The alpha will probably stay free for quite a while. We're soooo Diva and Zebra atm...

Great! Very, very generous! I guess these presets won't be compatible with the final version so it's nice that there will be some time to use them :)

Btw: Please, Pleeeeeaaaaaaase don't change the filter! I know, the cutoff freq isn't really stable at high resonance levels but it sounds awesome that way! There are already enough clean, perfectly tracking filters out there! :)

Cheers
