is just a matter of ease of use to find , basses, leads etc...
We had discussions about this in the past. And I bet we will see additional ideas for this type of categorization as this thread evolves ;-)

dimensions that immediately come to my mind:
- character/style (dark, etc.)
- type (bass, leads, etc.)
- patch designer (...)
- etc. etc.

In principal I do not believe in ONE solution here. And according to my experiences preferences even change depending on what I am aiming for: Looking for a bass sound? Want to learn from mcnoone's way to design sounds? Etc.

I recall Urs stating he is having some ideas about how to develop patch management further? If I am NOT wrong it'll be great if you, Urs, could help us to understand the proposed/idea'ed _technical_ approach. To help giving this excellent idea the right direction to incorporate categorization information to the patches.

my 2 cents

what if i do it in Mediafire ?
For something like this, the only site that would be legitimate to host the presets, in a combined way, would be the U-he sites.

woulndt it be easier for me to have all the bass sounds in one folder? all leads in another and so on... ?
It's a good idea.
You can do this already.
Using your own computer, and not sharing them on a file sharing network.
I also believe Urs would have the final say on something like this.

I damn well better have final say over how the patches I've contributed are distributed. So far I don't have a problem with any of the ideas being tossed around here, but I don't want people to think it's okay to distribute my work without my permission.

Exactly as Justin says, it's up to each preset-designer. And I believe you got confused: As far as I can tell, dropbox was only a way to gather presets by everyone who wanted to be involved. I don't believe that was going to be where people had to download the final set. If Urs wants to put them on his website that's great.

Fully agree. Discussing a potential platform is one aspect. But only with explicitly authorized content !

the disadvantage of putting all freely available patches into one zip-file would be that you would get also all the "junk" (which i believe varies very much from user to user) you don't want. from this point of view, i would like to keep a backup of my personal zebra collection for such purposes as migrating to a new computer and so on rather than relying on a public domain zebra collection.

but in order to get the whole stuff organized a search system with a small selection of attributes would be very helpful, as was already suggested (compare ni stuff). such a search system would also provide the benefit of integrating the user's personal patches into the collection. when searching for a certain kind of patch you should be presented all personal, free and commercial ones, no matter where you save them (e.g. i like to keep my own presets in a personal folder).
