I own the receptor 2 pro max with NI komplete 7. I have trouble making the receptor viewer work? (with win xp) any advice is appreciated. It says it does not recognize receptor.

Do I need to register NI komplete 7 to access the plugins and softsynths on my receptor?? I can only access trial versions and freeware right now. I can access the komplete 7 files via the receptors remote but i can't find the komplete 7 instruments using receptors user interface.

thank you

best regards

Hi Lars,

It sounds like you have a few problems going on here. Let's separate the problems and deal with them separately:

First - hook up a monitor and keyboard/mouse directly to your Receptor, and make sure you are able to use the UI locally - before trying to use the receptor remote.

Problem 1: NI installation and registrations

If the NI apps (eg. Kontakt, Absynth, ....) are not showing up on your instrument list, then it sounds like they have not been installed properly.

Question - Did you buy the Receptor 2 Pro Max Komplete (the one with Komplete pre-installed), or are you simply trying to install Komplete on your receptor by yourself?

If you bought Kontakt 7 pre-installed on your receptor, you should see all of the instruments in the instrument list (though you will still need to authorize them using Service Center, which is run from the 'Setup' tab). If this is the case, you should contact Muse Tech Support and submit a ticket.

If you are trying to install Kontakt 7 yourself, this is typically done via the 'Direct Install' method (which uses your PC's Disk drive to remotely install binaries onto your Receptor). There is an article somewhere in the (plugorama.com) knowledge base about this. Your best bet is to submit a ticket for this as well saying that 'you'd like to know how to install Komplete 7 using Direct Install'.

Problem 2: Using Receptor Remote (on Win XP)

Make sure that your receptor is connected via an ethernet cable, and you are using the correct cable (depending on whether you are connecting the cable directly to another computer, or via a router -- you may need to use a crossover cable). After connection, make sure that the Receptor is visible to your computer (ie. you should be able to see it's name listed in the 'Network' under XP).

If you have installed Receptor Remote on your XP machine, and launch it, the main dialog should say "Scanning for Receptor ..." for some period of time, then it should find the Receptor and list it's name in the dialog. At this point, 2 buttons on the dialog should be active: "Receptor drive" and "Receptor Viewer". Pressing 'Receptor Viewer' will open a VNC window on your XP machine, that should be a duplicate of what you see on a monitor directly connected to the Receptor. Pressing "Receptor Drive" should open an XP file explorer window showing the contents of your Receptor's drive.

OK - you probably already know much of this, but at least, this is what you should expect to see if things are working correctly.

Hope this helps,
Kevin L

Hi. And thank you for your reply. Its great to have a forum like this for support.

I originally decided to buy receptor with komplete 5 pre-installed because i am not a computer wizard:) I soon discovered that NI had the komplete 7 version as their newest product at that time so of course i ordered what I thought would be a receptor 2 pro max komplete 7 with komplete 7 pre-installed.

However when i received the receptor it was not "native green" as i thought it would be and the NI instruments do not show in the instruments list. Kontakt shows but not the rest:( I see the instrument folders when i click "receptor drive" in the receptor remote control so they must be installed somehow.

I think i need to authorize komplete 7 through the service center but how? what do you mean by submitting a ticket at muse research?

regarding the receptor remote i have found out that the vnc does not exist or work...

installing the receptor remote it comes up with this..

The digidesign plug-ins folder (program files/common files/digidesign/DAE/plug-ins) does not exist or could not be written to.

A lot of questions i'm afraid but thank you for the help.

best regards

Hi Lars -

Let's see what questions we can answer here:
I think i need to authorize komplete 7 through the service center but how? what do you mean by submitting a ticket at muse research?
The main support page for Muse is http://www.plugorama.com/support.php

You may need to create an account and register your Receptor first. Typically (after doing this), you would go to the Help Desk and create a ticket. If you describe your issue and what you are trying to do, Muse's support engineers are good at giving you an answer, or calling you up to talk you through this. I have done this before for Installing Komplete 6/7, and they have sent me reasonable instructions how to do this using Direct Install.

Also, you can sometimes find quick answers to your problems by searching their Knowledge Base.

... bummer :( Did you 'order the wrong thing', or did you receive the wrong model?

Probably you should talk to a support person (eg file a ticket) to diagnose what is going on.

If you have your Receptor hooked up to the network correctly, the 'VNC' should just work. Receptor has a VNC server built into it, and the Receptor Remote software launches a VNC client when you hit the 'Receptor Viewer' button.
installing the receptor remote it comes up with this..

The digidesign plug-ins folder (program files/common files/digidesign/DAE/plug-ins) does not exist or could not be written to.
So it sounds like the Receptor Remote didn't completely install (?).
Perhaps you should create the directory(s) above manually, then try to run the installer again.

It is probably best to resolve these networking and remote-viewing issues first, and then worry about authorizing Komplete second.

Regarding authorizations, there is a Tab on the Receptor's main interface, called 'Setup' (you should be able to get to this directly if you hook up a monitor/keyboard/mouse directly to your Receptor). If you click on this, you expose a page where you can set some global parameters for Receptor. About Mid-screen, and on the right-side is a panel labeled 'Install'. The last button in this panel is called "Run Utility'. If you press this button, you should see a pop-up menu with an option 'Service Center'. This is how you get to service center. On a Receptor 2, if your Receptor is connected to a Hub (or directly to a modem with internet service), then Service Center will connect directly to NI.

OK Hope this helps.
