Yes - it's been tested on a decrepit six year old non-SSE2 machine. Provided you've got SSE1, you'll be fine. If you're unsure and don't want to commit to buying the magazine in case it doesn't work, try the demo of any of our other products - they have the same processor requirements as Cumulus. If they work, you know Cumulus will.

why eastern europe is not covered with cm magasines ?????? :///// i need to search all over the web to find some plug ins that are included in mag or to be lucky sometimes that someone that i know going to uk and buy me a mag ...

I'm afraid I can't answer that - I'm not really aware how far-reaching Computer Music's distribution stretches. I do know they ship globally if you order an issue directly from them, which you can do at www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk.

I have never used Granular Synthesis before but was very interested when I learned how much you could pitch shift a sample with out some of the noticeable effects of a traditional sampler. I was under the impression with Cumulus that I would be able load in a synth shot and be able to map it onto key and play a Melody with it... Can you? And can you traditionally do this with granular synthesis?

Here in Kentucky, its also around $18(the special editions and Future Music are about the same price), I was in BN last week but they did not have it yet

If I buy a mag now will I be able to pull in an updated Linux 64bit tarball somewhere? Or do I have to wait for the next issue with the fixed tarball?

I'm afraid you'll need to wait until the next issue (CM 171) to get the correct Linux 64-bit tarball; sorry! Once you have the archive from the CM DVD however, all further updates will be downloadable.

Granular synthesis does separate the pitch and time of a sample, so you would be able to, for example, pitch shift without speeding it up, or slow it down without lowering the pitch. It's not artifact free though, and different implementations can either add noticeable phasing, or a slight metallic ringing. Cumulus is actually pretty good in this regard, and with lots of options to tweak you can normally dial in a decent clean sound.

But ... Cumulus isn't a fully featured sampler as such, so you can't map a sample across the entire keyboard. What you can do is set the Pitch individually for each Scene, and then trigger the Scene's with MIDI notes. With only 8 Scenes, you are however limited to just 8 individual pitches. There are a few presets in the Tuned factory bank category that demonstrate this in action.

I don't know if Computer Music appears on the shelves of Stockholm's shops, but you can order the issue (any from CM 170 onwards) from http://www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk Otherwise, maybe put a 'wanted' in the KVR marketplace; perhaps someone who has finished with the issue would be happy pass it on?

Just to close-out on the 64 bit linux issue, the latest edition (171) of the magazine contains the fixed archive. In fact I've got cumulus running in renoise now. Works fine.
