What are the advantages of using it with a keyboard like Kronos,Jupiter 80 Motif XF8
over using it with just a midi controller like Sublogic highend one or other
highend midi controller.

Im getting ready to setup a whole new keyboard system and looks like I will
want to run the new Receptor Pro PLus Max new model just out to get things
going for the vst stuff.

Just trying to decide which way to go with the keyboard system which I am
willing to spend the money to make this a killer system with a great
keyboard.

Help me spend my money on what I will need to set this thing up right. :)
1. Receptor Pro Plus Max
2. Keyboard hardware or midi controller
3. any audio interface stuff needed. I have a 1402-VLZ3 board.
4. foot controllers etc
Getting my list together.

Hi there videorov,

The Kronos,Jupiter 80 Motif XF8 are complete workstations with their own sound modules. So you'd do with a workstation everything you would do with a controller, and more.

Another choice is to go with a high end controller like the VAX77. But those are (several) thousands of dollars, they have way superior responsiveness to velocity (eg for pianos)and worth every penny. For pluggins and Receptor, it's appears to be the ultimate gig. But I can't help you with that.

In my case, I realised that having a sequencer is a must and I wanted to add other sounds than pluggins to my gig. My controller had poor midi implementation and no sequencer, so the choice was pretty easy.

What I would suggest to you if you go with a controller:

Make sure it has the midi implementation required for your project, and choose a foot switch that allows prgm up and down so you don't have to reach for the controller to change snapshot patch on the fly during a gig. Those are mistakes I made in regards of my actual needs. The Tech21 Midi Mouse appears to be a good choice from reviews.

Hope this stears you in the right direction.

I think in most cases you'll be able to get better sounding options out of your Receptor than what most high-end workstations offer. (I haven't spent any time with the Jupiter-80 so I can't comment on that.) While I don't think you need a full-blown workstation to control your Receptor I do suggest using a keyboard that has some built-in sounds. I've used the Yamaha S90ES with great success as have many others. This way you have something to play in case anything goes wrong with your Receptor. Also a lot of times it's nice to be able to call up a decent pad or electric piano sound for layering without having to instantiate a new plug-in. The Receptor's "line-in" option lets you mix your keyboard's audio output with all those VSTs.
