I wanted to give a little plug to Noisebug (www.noisebug.net). Since this thread is about special offers and sales, I suspect that we forget about the value of service, a great showroom and a really knowledgeable staff.

I picked up an SEM Pro and MonoTribe over the weekend (15% off sale) from their showroom and was blown away by the selection of gear they currently have. Beautiful vintage stuff, modular gear, analog goodies, pedals, etc. Not too much digital, though they have some modeled synths and VSTi instruments.

These guys are complete aces, and asking for their opinion about a particular synth actually results in a detailed explanation of the product -- far from the experience at Guitar Center or on the phone with any of the 1-800 retailers.

If the only thing you're after is mainstream gear at the cheapest price, Noisebug's probably not your shop. They sell some of the better mainstream stuff, but their inventory is hand-selected, not just every item a distributor forces them to carry. There's nothing wrong with a great deal, and somehow I don't see Noisebug getting into the "price wars" thing, but sometimes there's a lot more to it than just price. You really do get what you pay for.

(No, I don't work for them. Just a happy customer who wants to see a great company stay around for a few years. Hopefully that's okay in this thread.) I think they do mail order but if you're anywhere near L.A. it's worth a visit out to their store. Just avoid rush hour. Oh, and the SEM Pro rocks. Amazing synth!

szurcio wrote:Does anyone have any more details about the Addictive Drums deal (for $50) at Guitar Center stores tomorrow and on Sunday? I checked at my local GC today and they haven't heard anything about it.
Plus one...I live thirty miles from my GC so would like something more substantial than "someone on kvr said"! :D
I know this comes too late for the above-mentioned deal, but since this question comes up fairly often I thought this bit of advice might be of some help to you or others on later GC deals....

-- Don't rely on GC sales staff to know about any ongoing deals/promotions. Most of the time they have no idea about such things -- even those advertised at their website.

-- If you hear about a GC promotion, go to guitar center's website and, if it's true, there will most likely be an ad or page confirming it. (Make sure you check the sales circular section for guitar, keys, drums, etc which they keep updated). When you find the advertised deal, print it out.

-- Take the printed proof to your local GC. They will honor it, period. Even if they happen to be out of stock on the product -- if you want it, it will be ordered from another site for you at the honored price.

This ain't brain-surgery, folks. The bottom line is, GC personnel usually are unaware of special deals that we so often hear about on the forums. It's up to you to get printed proof from their site, then any GC will honor it - even if it means giving you a rain-check.

Regarding the Rhino synth:

The sounds on the website sound pretty bad. I suspect it is just bad choices when it comes to whoever wrote the demos.

Any rabid users out there?

1000's of them... my question is: Any point in getting this if I have Sytrus (being FM as well)?

I own both. They have a different sound as all synths do, plus Rhino can use samples, Sytrus cant. For this price its certainly worth owning both.

Yup, being different FM synths having different sounds is a given. Thanks though, didn't know that R could take samples. Nice.
