Using Guitarist with SonarX1. Need help

First off, excellent program.

My question is, how do I get a riff or a melody that I've designed in guitarist to play from the sequence timeline in sonar?

Ive used other programs and it's just a matter of dragging the midi file into the track on the timeline. However when I did that it plays an awful unusable sound.

Can anyone help?

I've got some great sounds to use.....just don't know how to use them.
