Combo Model V

Post

It has been a while since I have updated Combo Model V, but just now I have released a new beta version.

v1.1.0 beta1:
  • Improved tone generators (extra harmonics, improved prefilters)
  • Improved voice filters
  • Added auto adjust volume parameter which "boosts" flute voice
  • Added Vox Jaguar-style monophonic manual bass voice
  • Change global tuning using Shift-click / Shift-drag, randomize global tuning using Alt-click / Alt-drag
  • Full changelog...
Meanwhile I have also been working on and off on something else, but I will open a new topic about this in a few minutes.

It was already perfect.. but it just got better! Thanks :)
I did get a life,once...but it was faulty, so I sent it back.

I'm very excited about the update.
For me, the Combo Model V is definitely by far the best continental emulation on the market - better than the one in the nord keyboards (I also own a Nord Electro 3) and better than any other VSTi.
I've compared it to a original Continental and it's incredible how close it gets to the real thing.

I use the Combo Model V live on stage with a v-machine (and a Vox Tonelab for amp simulation) for my doors tribute band:

Thank you Tale!

You are very welcome! :)

So you have Combo Model V running in V-Machine? Cool! 8) Your band is sounding really good, BTW. Is the organ sound in the video Combo Model V? If so, can I link to it?

I have just released another beta version of Combo Model V, making it up-to-date with Combo Model F.

Combo Model V v1.1.0 beta2:
  • Added lock tuning, so tuning persists when changing presets
  • Added noise gate parameter, so noise gate can be switched off
  • Double-click instead of single-click on top to open settings window
  • Alt-click instead of right-click to preview bass notes
  • [VST] Fixed preset selection not updating after MIDI Program Change
  • [Mac OS X] DMG installers

Post

Thank you for the updates, these organs are killer!

Now maybe from a vintage perspective this is just wrong but how about being able to layer the extended bass voice in Combo V with the last octave on the keyboard?

Well, actually the Vox Jaguar had exactly that function (called "Bass Chords"), so I guess it is totally right from a vintage perspective. :D I will think about this, and perhaps I will add it. Thanks for you feedback. :)

Yeah, the Combo Model V is running in v-machine without any problems or complications.

Yes, it's the combo model v through a Tonelab ST. (by the way, the continental sound in the light my fire video from the same gig was a VB3, not the combo model v).
Of course you can link to it. It would be great if you could link to my band page www.stoned-immaculate.de (http://www.stoned-immaculate.de) in return.

A friend of mine owns a Vox Continental (and he is also very impressed by the combo model v). I intend to do some comparison sound files but it can take some weeks.

Thanks! I have added the video to the ComboV website, at the bottom, along with a link to www.stoned-immaculate.de.

Cool.

I have just released another new beta version. If all goes well, then the next version should be a release candidate.

v1.1.0 beta3:
  • Added "bass chords" which adds the bass voice to the bottom octave of the regular voice
  • Click on toggle switch label to toggle
  • Fixed clicking on drawbar numbers sometimes not working

Post

Thanks for the update. The bass is not polyphonic. Is that by design?

Yes, it is. I have modelled it after the bass voices of the dual-manual Vox Continentals and the Vox Jaguar, and both also feature a monophonic bass with low-note priority.

post edited - nothing to write!

If you have nothing to write, then I have nothing to add, especially not sustain pedal support... :hihi:

I have just updated Combo Model V to v1.1.0 RC1:
  • Added sustain pedal support
  • Replaced bass toggle switch with rotary switch
  • [Windows] Smaller installers
  • [Mac OS X AU] Fixed various memory leaks
If you are using the 64-bit AU version, then could you please report back whether this build works for you, and what version of Mac OS X you are running? Thanks!

Thanks again :)
