I had to wipe out my PC and reinstall Windows and everything else from scratch, what a pain!

Anyway...
I have saved a new song I am working on multiple times (just in case) so that part is fine. :phew:

I have all the Windows updates done, and Sonar Producer 8.5 has it's patches all done. The latest version of Synthmaster is reinstalled too.

I loaded up my song I was working on in Sonar, it has maybe 5-6 instances of SM 2.5 in it. One of the tracks with SM on them has sound when I play it back, but none of the others. It isn't a "frozen" track, so that's not it.

Is that a Sonar issue or SM? I made sure it's not something silly, like if that one track is soloed or whatever. Nothing is soloed in the song, they all should play sound the way it's set, but I can't figure it out.

Battery is working ok with it's track and the notes sound off ok.

Also if I add some new notes on one of the tracks of SM, they don't sound off either. I started a new test song, add SM, and it plays perfect when I add notes to the track.

It's just weird. Seems like if one track works in the song, then they all should.

Rob, could you save the preset for that track and send it to me?

Thanks for the quick response Bulent :)

You mean the preset for the track that IS working right?
I think it's just a standard preset, and I didn't change it around.

I believe it's called Smooth Pad CYF, I am not at my regular PC right now, will have to check on that and send it over.

I loaded the project back into Sonar to check it out again.

Opened the GUI of SM for that track, and went to the Browser.

I used the little arrows to go to the next preset in the list, then arrowed back to the original preset, then it worked!

But when I went to the other tracks, and I click the arrow to get to the next preset, it won't go to the next one. :? Won't play any sound either.

It DOES move down in the list on the right side, but it won't really "Select" it and won't change the name near the top (above "Parameter Update") like it usually does.

Could it have to do with how I re-installed it, like the Program Files folder, or VST folder, etc? I couldn't remember how I did it orignally, but that one preset does work either way, which is strange.

I checked it again just now, and it is the "PD Smooth CYF" preset. That's not a 2.5 preset, not sure if that has anything to do with it?

I uninstalled SM, used CCleaner to clear out temp files and anything leftovers in the registry (just in case) and this time installed it to C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VST Plugins, but it does the same thing.

:?

I could send you the preset that wasn't a problem (or one that IS) but not sure what email to send it to. Also the one that does work is just a standard preset anyway: PD Smooth CYF

Maybe it is just a Sonar issue.

EDIT:
I just posted over on the Cakewalk forum asking about this, just to see if anyone has run into this before.

If I don't get an answer from anyone (Sonar people or SM), I guess I will reconstruct the song by copying/pasting the midi notes into a new project.

Post

I opened the project/song file, created a new one on top of that so 2 songs were open at once: the old and then newer blank one.

I added 7 instances of SM to the new one, then started to load the correct preset in for each instance to match up with the my original song, which is all messed up now.

When I tried to load presets in, they wouldn't "take". I could skip through many presets and none of them would load in so I could hear anything.

I closed everything down, started a new project/song from scratch, added the SM instances, THEN loaded the messed up song (so I could copy the midi notes over from it) and then the newer songs SM instances would take the presets I was trying to load.

Whew...how weird, I guess that older Sonar project file is totally screwed up.

I think I need a retail version of Sonar to debug these issues. Do they give NFRs to developers?

I am not sure. They had a demo version of Producer 8.5, but now they are up to this new version called X1, so I don't know if that older demo version is available.

Actually I don't think the demo will work in this case as I was saving projects and re-opening them, and demos don't save anything usually.

At least I can work around all this with what I did this morning. It's just if something happens again (in the future) to the PC, I hope the project will load correctly.

I just don't get why the project file would be messed up if it was working fine before, so it may be a SM issue and not Sonar.

I was thinking I could intall Camtasia and make a little movie file of what the screen looks like when I try to load presets, not sure if that would help. :?
