Hi gang!

I was just thinking that the structure of the preset folders in Zebra2 could be simplified (or at least not made more complex) for the next update. Especially "Two Point Five" is a candidate for removal i.e. all those patches could go elsewhere e.g. into the existing category folders...

Anyway, it's early days - but I'd appreciate your thoughts

EDIT: Please don't turn this thread into a "search functions / tagging" discussion (we can talk about that later). It's just about folder structure for the time being - thanks!

I'd like some kind of a simplistic filter on the GUI and a method of marking patches so when I'm looking for BASS patches I will only see them, or when I'm looking for PADS again I'd only see them.

I still don't like the preset structure.. it has improved but I wish it had stuff like tags etc. but that wasn't the question.... please don't move 2.5... I know exactly where to find it and I have already favouritised the patches I like...and if you add new patches I wish I could easily find them. and without tagging the only way to do so is ike you did with 2.5. separate folder for them...

Those won't disappear - the Zebra installer won't delete existing folders (although you should always save your own stuff just to be on the safe side!)

Yes, the structure definitely needs a make-over. To this day, I still don't know what Perkers and Lupins are supposed to be (cute as these names are), or what kind of instruments hide under the "2.5" moniker (two tubas and a trombone?).

There are probably more pressing issues, but consolidating them would be nice (not that we couldn't do it ourselves, but...I'm sure that especially new users would welcome it greatly).

Really? Even if you don't get the word play, isn't what each folder holds in common obvious from the respective content of each?

Perkers=Percussion, Lupins=Loops/Arpeggios/Sequences.

I've tried making my own structure and it just ends up a mess - the more categories the harder it is to decide what really belongs where. It's already the case that many patches could happily be sorted into one of two locations - the more categories, the more that this will happen.

So, for simplicities sake, leave it as is.

If there are new patches with later versions give them their own folder "2.x" (so that we can see what's new) *and* sort them into the category folders. No need to keep the last version of the new patches folder "2.-x".

(+1 for user definable tags)

Howard, I like the idea of 0 Two Point Five being merged in back with the other presets and also like your naming. No complaints here.

Aw geez, I was joking. Half-joking, to be honest, because I do remember not "getting" these categories when I first got Zebra (of course it's obvious as soon as you start playing). I really believe potential new customers will feel more at home when they see the tried-and-true categories they've grown to love (like, say, "Deadmau5 Cheese", "Wakeman Follies" and "Dubstep Wobblies"). And besides that, these broad categories need some differentiation (just look at the very different types of leads in "leaders").

I agree, the categories are broad (and Leaders is a good example of that), but as soon as you start to introduce more categories and sub-categories it just gets really messy.

You've got a point there. Tagging would be more helpful than a hundred "properly differentiated" categories.
