Can we see the original statistical analysis then?

(regarding the Casio SK1:)
is used by Fatboy Slim, Beck, Autechre, Portishead, Bloodhound Gang, Nine Inch Nails, Incubus and Blur.
Yes, used in an anecdotal way. And this is MTV music, not real music.
Sorry but i have to ask. :help: What is real music?
Classical, jazz. Where real musicians play real instruments. :)
Damn those lame mtv musicians, miming to backing tracks with their keytars! :tantrum:

I thought you meant mainstream but c'mon man, any instrument that makes a sound, is chromatic and can be played with skill is a real instrument by definition. If only music made with these 'real instruments' existed the world would be a very boring place. ;)

It's a very interesting question the OP has posted. I don't know how well the software emus of classic synths compare. I'm sure not well, but with CPU growing exponentially it's catching up. I know that when I was doing the demo for Xenos Vintage 70's and 80's soundbank for z3ta+, how much some of the patches came so very close to the originals - and on Z3ta+! (Not one you associate with analog warmth). And how much things have changed and improved over the decades. Trust me, if you started out like me playing with the Neon, Atom, and the Tau bassline, you'd be amazed every time you hear a modern VST spit out some noise.
Can't wait to hear what's to come.

Hmmm, Herbie Hancock - Sure I saw him on Arturia's website the other daw, or maybe he isn't a real musician - that's why he was there... :hihi:
Ok, Arturia are definitely paying those artists for the nice comments.
In the analog vs. soft debate, their synths are the absolute proof that software sucks.
Software is a means for less wealthy people to get into making music(their own definition of music), Compare a Fairlight to Kontakt, Kontakt is leaps and bounds ahead of that old hardware, for those that like electronic music software plugins are a god send, we don't all want to own original hardware analogues from the 80's, we want to be able to have midi and intergration with our set-ups, yes we may lust after the real analogue sound but it's a compromise, I cannot afford a modern midi compatible analogue synth(like the Prophet 08), so soft and hardware VA's is the way for me at the minute.

For those with little or no money the freeware is a god send for learning music making and a good starting block. Don't be a snob!

Also your slating software on a plugins forum, your not going to win!

So Julliard and Mills are out then.

So self taught musicians are not 'real' musicians...OK...that gets rid of the Blues then....uuummmmm....

This is the age of wobble bass, the sound of softsynths. Forget about mimicing the past and just focus on making good music.

If you absolutely must recreate 100% a sound of self-oscillating moog filter or the ear-piercing transients of a devilfish modded TB-303, you know what to do.. Buy the real thing. Just don't be disappointed if nobody else notices the "life-changing" difference :)

I think we're already on the levelling off of a sigmoidal growth curve in terms of how close the latest emulations are to the real thing.

its just becoming a smaller and smaller subset of reality as you go on isnt it?

Second sentence contradicts the first (wobble bass/good music). ;)

I'm not against software. But people are fooling themselves, if they think that there is no difference in the sound. Analogues have a different (IMO better) sound.
Learn on free/cheap software, but then do yourself a favor and move to the real thing. Be it guitar amps of synths.

BTW...better be prepared to have really deep pockets..you also have to go hardware for the 'real' recording studio as well then.... :hihi: :hihi:

What I meant was Berklee musicians vs. Fatboy Slim. Classical, jazz, blues virtuosos vs. DJ's.
