Hi all, I love my receptor it has made my music making a dream but now i've hit my worst nightmare it wont boot

heres what im getting

Checking File systems
/dev/hda4:
The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2
filesystem. If the device is valid and really contains an ext2
file system (and not a swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock is corrupt, you might try running e2fsck with an alternative superblock:
e2fsck -b 8193 <device>
fsck.ext3: Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/hda4
[FAILED]
*** An error occurred during the file system check.
*** Dropping you to a shell: the system will reboot
*** when you leave the shell .
Give root password for maintenance
(or type control-D for normal startup):

Its a receptor 1 pro rev c
Any help whatsoever to resolve this would be appreciated my music is lost without my muse!
Any ideas as to what i can do? (bin it is not the answer!)

im in the UK and given the time difference and the fact that its the weekend i thought i would ask here first, if I dont get anywhere i will give them a call monday but I am out of warrenty period so im not sure if that will work?

Hi 80s80s80s,

Sorry to say, it sounds like you have serious disk corruption. You might be able to do the 'fsck' to repair the disk, or at least bring it back up such that you can back-it-up, but even that has a relatively low chance of success.

At this point, I would suggest getting a new disk in your system, and trying to reinstall your existing plugs on the new disk. You can probably even take advantage of newer disks, and bump-up to a newer/faster/bigger Hard Drive.

If you really need this disk back, I would suggest sending the disk to Muse Research -- but there are no guarantees they will be able to salvage it either.

Sorry that your options are limited - from my experience, you could be wasting alot of time trying to resolve broken block tables.

many thanks for the reply.

seems to be that the disc is a goner,things have gotten worse nothings happening at all now just clicks away to itself, wouldnt be so bad but i cant adjust the bpm of the click to make it usefull!

love the idea of getting a new disk in there, in fact I have one I could use.
However without the receptor operating system im dead in the water arent I? or am I missing something?

Hey 80s,

Ha - I like that about syncronizing the clicking sound!

Yeah - you need to have at least one good Receptor Disk to make a clone (eg. using a low-level linux disk copy (like 'dd'), or even using a hardware cloner).

Your best bet is to simply order a replacement drive from Muse for the 1 rev C drive.

contacted Muse in the end , things took a while but to be fair to them i now have a new drive and a working receptor $100 for the drive and $100 for the postage to the uk so I am happy. Now ive just got to reinstall everything and all my patches!!

btw the seagate drive i replaced was still under warrenty so i sent it back and got a replacement!
