One can also sandbox install with for example Sandboxie, then just move what one needs over.

I made a bakup of my patches, before I installed the new beta, but the installer did't delete existing patches. The sounds also didn't change. :)

Hmm, will try sandbox install, didn't know that by now. Thanks.

I was having a problem with drum sounds and thought others might be having similar problems. I was modifying the kick drum patch and I was getting an intermittent, but distinct, click at the beginning of the sound. I had this same problem with the original patch as well. My first thought was I was overdriving a gain stage somewhere. When that turned out to be a dead end, I wondered if the noise was caused by voice stealing since voices was set to one. Again, not the problem.

I finally turned my attention to the envelopes. The attack stage on the envelopes was set to zero. Therein lied the problem. Increasing the attack to 2 or 3 ms solves the click problem and still gives plenty of punch to drum sound.

I have figured out a few more tricks, but I think I will save them until after the contest is over.

JJ Biener

As I am writing this, I am remembering I have a hardware synth that has the same problem, so maybe I should have looked there first.

Same here :tu:

We are experiencing crackling noises like from an old vinyl record when we turn on velocity via 'Level 1' on the amplifier module of the 'SP Electric Grand IW' patch. Can any of you confirm this? We usually don't have crackles on our systems. Any advice how to avoid it?

TIA

Yes can confirm both the 0 ms envelope click (0.5 usually makes it go away so little practical importance like you say), and also the crackle in your scenario Ruedirena.

I've also gotten a crackle on a track last days that comes and goes, not sure what's causing it, but it's a very busy patch with a lot of lfo, automation and velocities going on.. Can't be CPU or memory load as they are both low.

Anyway, this is a beta synth so the odd thing is to be expected but overall very little trouble so far here. Once I got familiar with how to work and found all the features it's actually quite charming way to create sounds, but a bit tricky at first it has to be said..

Sound is also very good. I thought in the beginning the range was maybe limited to bass and lead etc but more than happy with some strings and pluck sounds now which I didn't think was there. Struggling a bit with the kick sound at the moment, but nothing new there.. ;)

But 1 week and no entry has not been the norm lately so looks like people want to use time for this one.. 8)

Any chance you could run through the patch turning signal inputs off to see if you can figure out where the crackling is comming from?

Thanks,

The label on the Amplifier module still says 'Ampifier'.

I had noticed that some time ago and meant to pass on the info but then i forgot.

Thought i mention it this time... :)

Done and found out that the crackle disappears if Level 1 Mod is turned to 0 %. Cranking it either to the plus or to the minus side the crackle returns. Everything else doesn't influence the noise, may it be using other oscillators than wavetables, turning off inputs or deleting not necessarily needed static modules.

Whats pluged into the Level 1 mod? Is it a controler, or signal with a modifier? If so what modifier?

And could you email me the patch?

chris[at]sonigen{dot}com

V'ger already emailed me a patch he was having problems with but it didnt show anything on my system.

Thanks!

@you, who are interested:

I sent an email to Chris. Let's wait what he is coming up with.

Cheers
Ruedi (wondering if the first Sonigen track will be submitted this weekend - a challenge, indeed )

Well guys,

My entry is finished and uploading now.
This is the first time I've participated in the OSC and I'm glad I got to finish this track.
Ever since Sonigen Modular came out in VST form in July, I've been having a lot of fun with it. The best unison I've ever heard.
I'm not much of a sound designer but still, no presets were used in that track.
I don't know what else to say, except that it took me 12 hours to complete it over the last 10 days.
I hope you like the result.

Karten - Holograp (4:17 - uploaded in mp3 vbr0 - 7.2 Mb Mb)

16 instances of Sonigen Modular.
(the drums were sampled, loaded in ShortCircuit and I just adjusted the levels)

ReaEQ
ReaComp
ReaDelay
