Sonigen Modular

Thanks for the nice words.
I had to delete and reupload it as I wasn't logged in SoundClound when I submitted it.
I also changed the format to mp3 vbr0 for a friendlier download.

And could you email me the patch?
@you, who are interested:

I sent an email to Chris. Let's wait what he is coming up with.
Problem solved. Chris gave the advice to use velocity as the modifier of the ADSFR. Instant crackle-free.

Welcome to the contest, Karten.

16 instances of Sonigen Modular.
(the drums were sampled, loaded in ShortCircuit and I just adjusted the levels)
Hmm. Did you then use your samples via the wavetable module of Sonigen? Everything else would be agains the rules, I think.

Cheers

Maybe I didn't use the right words.
Everything was made in Sonigen Modular. It's just that I rendered the drum sounds (made with SM) and loaded them in ShortCircuit, only to play them back in a more convenient way.
And for the drum sounds, I didn't use the wavetable module.

I didn't listened the track yet, but i can guess what he did.

For example, if you make a kickdrum channel with Sonigen Modular in real time, each beat kick sounds a bit different between each other. So he used a unique sampled kick from Sonigen.

This is a typical 4 on the floor, 16 beat pattern with Sonigen playing in real time.
X---X---X---X---

Each X sounds a bit different between each other.
So he just rendered the first X and used it in a sampled pattern.

So we will get this. A constant sound in a sampled/rendered channel.
X---X---X---X---

I'm still wondering why this phenomena happens sometimes with some synths, and others not.
Sorry for my retarded explanation, lol. :hihi:

Have a good day :)

You guessed right.
I didn't really want to do that when I started but I just couldn't get consistency for the kick drum and the snare. Hence the sampling idea.
But I still wonder why it did that since there was no LFO or velocity involved.

Here's my entry, bzurred vision, made with Cubase Studio 4 with:

- 23 Sonigen instances
- Melda Autopan, Equalizer and Compressor on insert
- Tal DUb II, AUMReverb, TAL Reverb 2 on send
- Melda DC blocker, Ferric TDS, TLs Maximizer on master bus

Hope you like it,
Cheers!

Welcome and cheers for the submission Karten. :)

I know this technique of sampling drums to get a consistent sound when the synth can't is used by others, but it's imo slightly borderline to the rules as it's using the sampler to modify sound when it should only be used to save CPU and nothing more. If the synth can't produce a consistent drum sound then that's what the synth is all about. Nothing has or will be done about it so far as it's still the unedited synth being used, but please try to avoid it and remember voters justice is always in play..

Isn't that one of those delays with hardwired modulation? I.e. it can't be bypassed so basically is a delay+modulation effect?

I think you could bypass it setting the rate to 0 (but I'm not very sure about it  )
I used it only as a delay, I don't really need a modulation there... so I'll replace it with a "delay only" effect. Any suggestion?

But I'm not modifying the sound.
I could just as well have rendered that one note and insert it as multiple audio files.
I'm sorry if I misread the rules but I understood that all sounds must come from Sonigen Modular without any modification. Which I respected.
No external samples or live sounds like voice, guitar etc allowed. However, for convenience or CPU saving, synth bouncing/sampling are allowed but only where the exact same result could have been achieved using the original synth. Samplers used must be freeware and easily available to all.

How do you modify ADSFR with velocity? :?

Got also crackle sounds with some patches over here (mostly percussiv sounds).. smexoscope shows, that the waveforms are stopping before they return to zero on the y axis, when releasing a key. This makes the sound crackle. Is there something wrong with the release of ADSFR or do I use the wrong settings?

That would probably be best. Have a look at IxoxDelay, ReaDelay, Roku (44khz only), MgTempoDelay or Classic Delay.

But here the sampler is used to get a different sounding result.

People who sample because of CPU issues will get the sound benefit so not fair to differentiate too much, just reminding everybody again that sampler should be used to save resources only, not for creative purposes.

In the amplifier module you rightclick on the input from the ADSFR and coose from the modifier menu the entry 'velocity'. Doing the same on the input from any oscilator will do the same for the chosen oscillator.
