Music Radar (and all the affiliated rags) are so pointless.

Define best?

Anyhoo, good luck to U-he, I only own the other 3 on that shortlist but Zebra's next on my to buy list so I couldn't choose just one anyway :D

Agree... but so are e.g. votes for established politicians.

NI FM8 ... such a nice, powerfull, versatile and underated synth.

Too bad they didn't wait a little bit longer, my vote would be for Diva. :)

After a almost a year of learning, experimenting, patching and almost reading the manual twice! + :D
My favorite VSTi atm is u-he Zebra!

I would never factor in something as being better due to being "underrated".
It's not a characteristic to judge a synth by...and doesn't make something sound better, or become more versatile, or powerful in anyway.
I'll add after trying the demo of FM8, I'm not finding it to be versatile, or powerful. Nice possibly. Underrated? :?

Zebra is clearly the best synth I have...and I'll be adding some proof shortly to back up my reason for saying so.
Although I can't demo Omnisphere, so can't vote on that one. I actually can't even listen to the demo tracks, cuz they're on youtube.
I wouldn't choose Diva even if it was up there. It's a niche' synth, and sounds great, but it is not versatile. I like variety, and a synth that can't do a large variety of sounds wouldn't get a best synth vote from me.
I do wish the Diva filters were in Zebra though...maybe someday.

edit:btw...it looks like Zebra is now no#2 from the vote results so far.

Zebra got my vote, and I'm a big Omnisphere fan. I'm also a big fan of Massive, and I was glad to see Zebra beat out Massive. U-He is really becoming well-known, for obvious reasons, and it's not the advertising budget...I don't think (?)

Hi,

I of course voted for Zebra :D.

Does these plugins like Omnisphere and Alchemy count as synthesizers? I think they look more like sample players with synth module, than synthesizers.

Hi,

If you think that Alchemy is purely just a sample player with a few extra synth fuctions, then I would say that you have grossly understimated what Alchemy is and can do.

Oh and phoey to anyone who thinks that this poll carries any weight.
It's a pointless poll with a ridiculous premise.

Best synth for what?

Best at which genre?
Best at creating the most diverse range of sounds?
Best/most accurate resynthesis?
Best at sounding like a real analog?
Best at sounding like a Virus?

Dumb poll!!!
My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Unify = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

Isn't that kind of insulting to musicradar.com? :hihi:

Voted for Zebra of course!
  1. Zebra sounds great!
  2. It is very, very versatile.
  3. The interface is designed like an interface which wants to be used and not as distracting eye candy. Seriously, some developers should look at the interfaces of Urs, Audio Damage and ValhallaDSP and try to learn something! The interface of Ohmicide may look funny at the first moment. But it's a PITA to work with it over a long period of time. And that's what I want to do! I want to USE my plugins. I don't sit here just to look at them!
  4. It's fun! I bought Zebra years ago and I still learn new tricks every day! I can't say that about most synths. I do this sound design thing since I was a child and I picked up a trick or two in that time. In most synths I just try all my basics in an hour and I've basically heard everything it can do. Eveything after that will just be variations of the basics.
  5. A nice community! This is important for me since I have no one to talk about this kind of stuff here. If I ever mention the word oscillator to my girlfriend again she'll probably kill me :hihi: I guess I already start to annoy the U-He community (and maybe the rest of KVR too :hihi:).
Just my opinion of course :)

Btw: Omnisphere could be soooooo great if they would allow to load your own samples. It's completely useless for me like it is now.

Cheers
Dennis
