Good choice. As i already got Xils Synthix i didn't think about it. Would be a nice addition to Diva anyway.DirkJ wrote: Synthex

The last hardware synth I owned. Bought Zebra, sold the ATC.Urs wrote:I'm curious about the ATC which might arrive today. That one might have a great potential for trigger points

CS-80 would be great, but as Urs said, noone is willing to donate such a synth for dissection.
Another great synth is the Andromeda. It's like a super VSTi, and a perfect candidate for this new level of emulation.

I get close results to the Nord Lead with DCO but of course it's a bit limited.
I wished a 2xDCO mode similar to the Nord Lead.
So, a Prophet V would be a good thing.

AM Synths are developing a CS80 filter clone in Eurorack (along with every other vintage filter it seems...), so that at least could be studied in the future.izonin wrote:CS-80 would be great, but as Urs said, noone is willing to donate such a synth for dissection.
Could a lower CS model be used as a jumping-off point? I believe that Yamaha were quite unique in that they used the same chips throughout the CS series. (Unlike Roland, for example, who seemed to change things every time.) I don't know how the surrounding circuitry differed from model to model, though.
When all else fails, read the instruction manual.

it s probably mentionned already but the sh 101 is great and it's/was a lot used for dance and electronic music, the caractere is just great, lot prefer it to the moog sound , tb 303 filter could be nice too, the pro one and arp 2500

Yep, I vote for the SH101 too. I have tried to get SH101 type sounds with the DCO and the various filters. The SVF on 24db is not bad, but more than anything I think the oscillators of the SH101 are really quite different to the jupiter/juno's. They seems to have a rougher more raw quality but I don't have an example of the hardware nearby to back up any of my guesses.

TBH I think Xils Lab did a very good job on the Synthix .. I've never played with real one (only heard it) but I think Synthix is really great sounding and at least to my knowledge pretty close to the originalDirkJ wrote:

Well, as for Synthex... I don't want to invest in the hardware, but we're going to rebuild the filter circuit in the Pro One.
Does anyone here have a Synthex? I would like to have a slow sweep through the self ocillating filter, with very low VCA sustain...

We can be sure that Xils didn't implement a zero-delay-feedback filter, so that would be one area in which a u-he version might be more accurate.penguinfromdeep wrote: I've never played with real one (only heard it) but I think Synthix is really great sounding and at least to my knowledge pretty close to the original

Just checked a bit myself.Urs wrote:Well, as for Synthex... I don't want to invest in the hardware, but we're going to rebuild the filter circuit in the Pro One.

The Synthex got a multimode filter with LPF 12dB, LPF 24dB, BPF 6dBm BPF 12dB and HPF. The chip used seems to be a CEM3320.
The Pro One seems to use the same chip but only as a LPF:

Before seeing that website i thought they use different chips...
I got no real synthex but Xils Synthix which is quite nice IMO. As there are not many (or no) other emulations to compare it's the best so far...

Their marketing person stated that they indeed implemented a zero delay filter. A quick look at the spectrum (when that odd extra distortion is set to pre-filter mode) unveils that only 1 harmonic is generated in the self-oscillating filter, two octaves above filter frequency, so it's a 3rd order polynominal waveshaper. This is basically what Vadim's KeepTopology paper is about - zero delay feedback with a single nonlinearity.hakey wrote:We can be sure that Xils didn't implement a zero-delay-feedback filter, so that would be one area in which a u-he version might be more accurate.penguinfromdeep wrote: I've never played with real one (only heard it) but I think Synthix is really great sounding and at least to my knowledge pretty close to the original
EDIT: written before Urs' above post
The filter is not oversampled and thus aliases from about 6 kHz at 44.1kHz - the spike simply bounces back from Nyquist (or maybe the downsampling filter isn't all that steep). Which ain't dramatic. However, the resonance gain risies towards the top end which is rather typical for a unit delay (and exactly what the zero delay should prevent from happening). Hence I'm sceptical if the marketing person is right about his assumption.

Okay, that's interesting (the bits I understood - '3rd order polynomial'?).Their marketing person stated that they indeed implemented a zero delay filter. [truncated to save space] I'm sceptical if the marketing person is right about his assumption.
I guess the jury is still out... for now.
(ah yes, 'marketing person' aka 'head of marketing and black propaganda')
