I recently wrote a review of Zebralette for a website. It hasn't gone live yet, but I'll post a link to it when it does. Anyway, I thought it would be neat to show the effects of the various Osc FX on a simple sawtooth wave, so I took some pics, and a bit of repetitive cropping later we have this :)

Note I left out a couple of effects, because they don't do anything interesting to a Sawtooth, and using another wave for them would mess with the continuity of the presentation. Here are the pics for the review:

First, the basic, default sawtooth:

Wouldn't a sine wave be better for these kind of tests? Just curious!

Thanks Sendy! These are very useful for helping me
understand what is going on with the FX.:D

Hm, sines are used to test distortions I believe, but a sine wave doesn't do anything under about 75% of these effects, wheras the sawtooth doesn't do anything under just a couple (they needed asymmetrical waves that don't have a predictable harmonic structure). It's also important to note that a lot of the effects are highly dependant upon what you put into them, and morphing the waveform can often morph the effect as well, with ones like Phase Distortion and Wrap. Therefore knowing what they do to a saw is only the tip of the iceberg...

If I had a way of easily batch-cropping pictures, I might have done all the effects and with triangle, sawtooth, square and pulse... Maybe another day.

Where was the amount knob set for these? default? all the way right?

I just played with it until I thought it gave a good example of an interesting waveform, and sort of exemplified the general sweep. It wasn't meant as a scientific test or anything, more a case of "look at the variety of sounds you can get from a saw".

I tried using the same value for all effects, but they all seem to be calibrated differently.

Interesting! Thanks Sendy! :)
And always remember that you can use all of these nice looking waveforms as LFO for the XMF! (Just tune the OSC way down and feed it into the sidechain input of the XMF) :)

I can't wait to try that... They'd make good modulation sources. I particularly like how Fractalz, Scrambler and Registerizer have a very fractal-like, self-similar appearance. Perfect for LFOs :)

it was really intersting to see all of those waveforms. thanks for the work !!

I tend to not "use enough" those OscFX. I sometimes even forget that they exist  and I do know that they are powerfull and usefull.

Really great to see what's going on with a Zebra oscillator. It's really impressive! One waveform goes a long way, aye?
With all the great presets we have I don't think we have even scratched the surface of what this thing can do. Just have to think away from "Juno" and what not and explore.

Thanks for the visual, Sendy :)

Very cool!
