This is a proposal for a future u-he product. The basic idea is that layering sounds is a very powerful sound design technique. Saving layered sounds is much more difficult than necessary since most DAW systems do not really allow for this. There isn't an elegant way to do this right now.

Some synths offer a built in layering or multi system to workaround this, yet these systems are limited to layers which only use a single synth. Other systems like KORE attempt to generalize this but have neither proper integration with the synths making up the individual layers nor with the host DAW. This has made KORE a problematic system in many ways.

u-he Layers would allow one to use mix multiple instances of u-he products in a layered architecture for quite sophisticated sounds. It would have the benefit of being able to tightly integrate with the synths which make up its layers since all would be made by u-he. Imagine a sound using Zebra for an attack / transient and DIVA for sustain, as well as Filterscape in the effects rack. Pretty cool, huh?

Some sounds could limit themselves to layers of a single product (thus perfect for owners of that product) while other sounds could mix and match encouraging users to buy all the u-he line of products.

Now, what kind of CPU (farm?!) would be needed to do this, if ACE, Bazille and Diva were to be layered? :/

Get Vaz 2010.
It can load 16 vsti's and play them layered if you (and your computer) want to

I'd pay 300 dollars if Urs just took over the Kore project from NI.

You can do that with Logic, or I'd imagine any DAW. But you'd basically have to send the same MIDI signal to multiple DAWs and then put them all through the same effects.

I'm still annoyed that NI killed Kore. :(

+1 :tu:
I don't really need all the Kore features but a single interface to load presets from all U-He synths would be awesome. I already suggested this some time ago.
Layered sounds would toast my CPU but it would be a nice feature too!

I think you meant tracks ;)

It's not a big problem. I do this all the time in Reaper, layering and splitting stuff.

I'm at 35,000 feet, drinking free drinks and posting on a forum.

Those free drinks are getting to me. :hihi:

Enjoy the life, man! :D

I voted no...

I have Live which has the racks and is already doing this well...

I woul also rather have Urs spend his time finishing Diva, Bazille and improving Zebra

Of course! It's just a thing which would be nice but it's really not necessery!
I'm glad for every second Urs and the team spend on Zebra and the other synths (especially Zebra though :hihi:).

I agree that it's not totally necessary, but would be very nice. If for no other reason than encouraging sounds to be designed that would not otherwise. Since it would create a market for sounds using the full range of u-he people would focus on exploring the possibilities in ways they might not otherwise...

In any case, it looks like most people would rather see u-he focus on the synths themselves. I hope Apple will add a layering feature to Logic 10 (I know this can be done today but it is not easy to save a sound using a couple synth layers and an effects bus for later use).

I think this is a DAW's job. More interface means more cumbersome usage, and it would be less powerful than the DAW way of doing things. There may be an argument for a collection of modules that can be patched together in an intuitive layering GUI with a finely designed balance between flexibility and usability ... that argument is Zebra!

I remember Urs saying some time ago he was considering multi-timberal support for Zebra. That would probably help go a long way to fixing this problem.

Sort of, but ideally if Urs does it he'll do it in this manner allowing mix and match of u-he products that are registered. Not only would that give us way more flexibility but it would also help encourage purchasing many u-he products to make full use of it.
