well... the problem here is not spending the money, is get it...honestly i dont make huge diferences in DAWs...once they are enough to my "exigences" i dont care if its Cubase, Reason, Mulab or any other...i even already made music with LMMS (the problem of this one is that crashes all VST's i insert there).. im trying to get a cheap but good DAW cause i dont have much money...yet..even if i had a lot of money i probably would buy a cheap one ehehehheh, cause i believe that a coder that makes a DAW and puts it for sale for a minor price its because he knows its worth and doesnt want to fool anyone..i mean..Nexus for eg. ..i dont know why this VST is so expensive if it just has the bases of a normal VST (yet great sound samples) but even so, Cronox for eg. is much more intersting to me than Nexus and its 16 times cheaper.. im not saying that a cheap DAW has no value in terms of work (wish i could make one) im just saying that many expensive tools are not worth for its price considering the cheap ones, cause if a guy makes a DAW that is so good as Cubase or Ableton and puts it for sale for a minor price its a great achievement for both, coder and costumer, and its worth to buy..a guy that makes a DAW or VST and puts it for sale for a major price (like Nexus VST) probably 24 hours later its cracked and for torrenting in every torrents sites cause nobody will buy such tool for such price unless you are realy rich and want to spend money....i believe that the market should be made thinking in everyone's economies and not made to earn a lot of money (enough is ok)... Linux was always free and they are still developing, instead Microsoft has always been expensive, they have filled their pockets with money and passed a bad image imo considering Linux..still Windows is the most used OS... no greed bros...

I agree on many of your points, price not necessarily represent what you buy for in many many cases. REAPER is probably the most notorious for this because that DAW is so rich of features, and growing daily, that it should cost as much or more than the big boys, and that's probably a statement to them...
I tried it but, like so many others, finds it too complex for just making good music and try to focus on the content of your inspiration. It's being said that is great for audio but it still a little fragmented for MIDI work and I must agree.
I use LIVE and Reason but I find MuLab a liberating experience for its simplicity and hidden power, and now in M4 the gap with the others is closing rapidly and in many aspect M4 is a winner already.
If you love to make music and allow a DAW to "Serve" you and not vice-verse then spend sometime here with us and with the Beta version. Ask any questions and see if we can save you a regret

I am convinced that MULAB is not expensive and really your money worth every penny.
The developer Jo is dedicated to bring you this DAW for unlimited composing.
Mulab 4 is very user friendly and gets more features in the future for advanced composing and there is a lot on the hood to discover.
All your VSti are easy to automate in MUlab.
Do you now that MULAB has also soundpacks too (get them from the website for version 3)

yes, ive noticed that it has good machines and ive seen the soundpack links at the site..i realy liked Sampla and MultiSampla, about automation i didnt understood very well despite of being capable of doing a small one, it just creates a subtrack with the automation but i had troubles to fit it with the prime track...my solution was drag the automation cell into the vst line and worked...in this point i believe Reaper is better and also for midi controlling, but, iven't tested none of both in studio just here in my "fun" PC. ill check both in studio tomorrow :) ... btw.. do you have any idea about how much gonna coast this new version?

I bought MULAB 3 and get also MULAB4 update for 75 EUR
I don't know what the new price for MULAB 4 will be, perhaps something more expensive than 75 EUR?

Automation is easy and userfriendly
A MUlab instrument or Vsti instrument who is loaded in a slot in a rack ..the parameters can be "dragged" to the trackpanel( trackheader )

So say you have a track with a insrument assigned than you add a sequenze ( double click to get a pencil to draw the sequenze ) on this sequenze you can put your midi notes on
For automations you can add a subtrack and draw a sequenze on it THAN you drag from the rack instrument( a slot loaded with a instrument) the parameters to this subtrack automation track ( put it on the panel=trackheader)

Now you double click on the subtracksequenze to go to the noteroll editor and there you find the automationchannel ( left under ) and choose there what parameter to automate

Than you can draw or record a parameter..say a filter-cutoff

automation seems easy but tricky and looks like it takes a bit of time...im used to Cubase just click on write button and it records knobs, faders, etc. movements..now...75 is already too much for my wallet (at the time being)..more than 75 should be even more dificult..anyway...all updades require time and effort so i cannot say by any mean that is expensive :)

Post

Do you think automation in MUlab is tricky :D
You can stay in the composerscreen and record there Knobs and sliders, etc in real time
All modules loaded in slots in the racks can be made visible and knobs be automated.

Choose a racktrack ( focus on it : yellow rectangle around ) and choose a select a knob , etc from a module slot
Record a knob, etc and a subtrack is added automatically ..again a second subtrack is added with a new parameter and so and the subtracks are filled with automation data

is this what you say?

Doesn't work so simply...what do i have to do next?
last time i tried, i made some "gymn" and moved the automations into the first rack along with the sequence and probably made something else that i dont remember and i could make it work... :s

No..your automations must be placed under the maintrack as a subtrack of the maintrack

Yes now you can record a knob or slider , etc movement on a subtrack automation sequenze track

It seems that you use 1 sound of the VSTi under these track you can add the automation of knobs, sliders, etc
-------------------------------------------------

So you loaded a VSTi in a slotrack and add a sequenze track for note recording( live or manual)

Than say you want to automate a knob of the vsti

You select the Vsti track (focus on it = yellow rectangle..with your mouse..click on the trackpanel and you get a yellow rectangle lines)

Than you record the automation of a vst knob by using the record knob and adjust the knob ..automatically adds MULAB a subtrack under the maintrack (notes)with the knob movements

You can choose a second knob and record this again ..and automatically adds MUlab a second (2) subtrack with automations for the knob movement

So all automations are stored on collapsable( visable/non-visable) subtrack under the maintrack.

Also possible is on forehand add some automation tracks and than by recording you must set the focus on the particulair subtrack ( i am not sure of this, but try ..)

FOR A EXAMPLE OF THIS SEE DEMO SESSION : WILDINGER

ok..i get it now...the problem here was that when i record an automation its automaticaly placed under all racks and not as a subtrack under the rack that is being recorded and has the vsti..in this case the first one... i believe this could be fixed and would be more easy to work with...np...Thanks!

Post

Perhaps it seems at first sight that is is no clear where the automations tracks are?
There is no clue in the program ..
That is userunfriendly in some way to not guide your user of MUlab to show where the automations tracks can be find..like what you encountered?

Subtracks can also be used for notes data too and for a automation data ( knob movements, etc )
In cubase for example you select a automation lane and you record the eautomation, and the same can be done in MULAB, but there is in MULAB no specific automation track to add

It goes via the subtrack..

Better is add a dedicted automation track..so by the menu : Add Sub-Track
must be changed in Add Sub-Track/Automation-Track

Do you think this is better?
