US forum here so I'll answer in English.

Overlap between UVI Soundbanks and M5v3 soundbank is only limited to the M5v3 DVD1 which includes portion of PSPro and Mayhem of loops. around 5Go over 45Go.

Thing is M5v3 is way more than just a soundbank and includes tons of features.
I won't detail those here but take a look at the website
http://www.motu.com/products/software/machfive
Don't hesitate if you have any questions on it though.

If you have enjoyed Synth Anthology, I'm pretty sure you'll find appealing all the synthesis related functions of M5v3 which makes it a very powerful synth as well as the included synthesis dedicated soundbank.

Please let me know what you find unclear about UVIWorkstation in terms of UI.

The overall gui seems illogical to me, compares with uvi 1.1.7. In 1.1.7 the tab architecture was clear at a glance. uvi 2 gui is a little bit messy...

Post

Nice work Otristan, I like the new Uvi Workstation Gui in 2.0,plays my m5v3 libraries too, n light on the cpu.Awesome work, but i have some questions regarding slice mode and how it differs from machfv3.

1. When I open a wav file/ click slice / I don't see any slices (on mac osx10.7.2)
2. It looks like in the manual it's possible to see different slices, but I don't see them, are these possible to manually move around when u make a slice?
3. Finally is there a way to save our samples hd to a fav's such as in machfv3?

Nice work my friend thanks

Also I tried to load a few rex files, and it doesn't appear to allow this??

Post

Also while on the subject,I love the new gui display,as it shows the currently loaded samples chord, is this also possible in mach five 3? I noticed reading about it last night in the m5v3 manual, but couldn't figure it out?

Post

is this slice feature working?

Post

Very disappointed by the workflow in UVI 2

I'll be reverting to 1.1.7

Despite the new UI being nice and clean, the workflow is a genuine step backward..

Firstly, I can find no way to pitch rex loops..

Secondly the removal of browsable custom directories (sorry but searching indexed stuff is absolutely no replacement) is a major flaw.

There's also a lot more clicking to get between edits..

I'm sure there was reasoning, but none of it jives with the way i produce music

Post

Update: I've been on it for a couple of hours now,and I agree the file browsers definitely a step back, it's awkward and I can't find my files as I did in earlier versions.. .. Slice mode isn't even working on mac version for me,or it's too hard for me to understand,I've read the manual n still can't get it..

I don't get the chord display function either as it's not displaying the proper chords when I drag over a sample.. not sure if I'm again doing something wrong, but it shouldn't be this difficult.. who beta tests this stuff?/ I keep saying this every year!??

@bobbyland
1) slice indeed do not display marker but as you can't edit slice this is not an issue. UVIWorkstation has never and never will allow slice editing. It's just a PLAYER so it's not broken in any way.

Are you sure you're checking v2 manual ?

2) There no possibility of saving samples. Once again, only a Player.
3) You can load user REX files by DnD on the part
4) "the currently loaded samples chord" ? What are you talking about ?

Sorry, but it's quite hard to follow you sometimes.

@quantize
1) The new UVIWorkstation 2 has been designed to simplify the most current usage which is a basic player. I agree it doesn't fit everybody way of working but this is what most of our users do.

2)To pitch rex loops, just trigger a higher or lower key.
Is that what you're asking ?

@budweiser
Not sure what you find messy. First page is everything you need 95% of the time with the info/script page, FX, and Arp

UVIWorkstation is meant to be the player for UVI based soundbanks not a light sampler.

Hope this clarify things and please let me know if you have any other question.

Will the update to BPM 1.5 that will make slicing work on a Mac, be released in the next millennium or the third?

(Apologies to all for off topic but I have to take the opportunity when it comes- 1.5 years and still waiting for my copy of BPM1.5 to work. Scandal- Motu/UVI.)

Will UVI ever support the drag and drop from Nuendo/Cubase?

I'll stick with learning Machfive 3 O, I guess I assumed it was more like it,but m5v3 has most of what I need, sorry for the confusion. :shock:

I'm sorry but to me it's crazy you can't edit the sounds you've bought. For me, uvi v2 is nothing but a way for pushing people to buy stuff they don't need (mach5 3). The example of synth anthology : synth anthology was called ultra focus, years ago. Ultra focus => uvi 1.xx was a cut down. Ok. We lost a lot of editing features, but the price was also lowered (as far as i remember).
Now we get uvi 2.
Uvi 1 to uvi 2 is a new cut down. So let's have a look :

ultra focus to uvi 1 = cut down
uvi 1 to uvi 2 = a new cut down

I'm only speaking of synth anthology, in this case, but it's a good example. Now we aint got any editing features. The only way is to buy Mach5 3, but who needs mach 5 3 ? More strings, more piano, more basses, etc ? I don't think mach5 3's sounds are better than kontakt 4 sounds. I think it's average sounds, no more. My hard drive, everybody's hard drive is full of average sounds.
So my opinion is that uvi2 is a piece of bulshit, maybe interesting for people that don't buy the soundbanks, but for paying customers that already have uvi soundbanks, it's like a pain in the ass.

Hi Tristan, the removal of custom paths for content browsing? I'm sorry but that's a pretty fundamental part of most workflows. There's no logic that could be advanced that makes that sensible--especially since v1 used to have it.

No, try it in slice mode...now theres no controls for pitch etc...again this is a deal breaker. I'll stick with the old version and start looking for something else. What a shame I used to love this thing..

The new UI makes this version appear to be an improvement, but it's definitely a major step backward..I would urge you to rethink some of the decisions made here.
