I can possibly answer a couple of those: drag-n-drop.

You can drag any slot (possibly even any module, even from within the Deep Editor?) and drop it onto a track to target that module.

You can drag VSTs onto MU.LAB to use them - after you've dragged eight, the free version will stop accepting more (I presume).

Then I disconnected one of the pads and wired it to the second section/slot all by itself, but it was still getting the effect.
Indeed, the most left rack is the main rack and receives the output from aux racks 1-2-3. That's why it's in a slightly different color.
I opened my empty session and put a MuSynth in Rack 1. I could see the volume meter go up and down when I used the little keyboard at the top of the MULAB window but I couldn't hear a sound. Playing it with my MIDI-keyboard wasn't a problem.
I assume you were playing very low notes.
Sometimes that keyboard is initted at the low end, something i still must finetune. Note that you can scroll/zoom the keyboard the same way as all editors.
-hm no multisampler anymore? I guess it happens via 'Basic Synth' and adding a module and adsr envelope now? If so, I'm not sure if it's an improvement.
Also the MuSynth can do multisamples!
What happened to 'new.musession' being the default session when you place it directly into the MU.LAB folder? That was handy! (Maybe I don't get the session folder thing yet).
It's still working. Why do you think it's not working?
How do I create a track from a rack?
Drag drop the rack name onto the + button below the tracks.
This will create a new track for that rack.
Also, how do I choose a track's target to be anything other than a rack (esp. for automation)?
Cfr pljones: Use drag-drop!
And yes indeed you can also drag-drop from the deep editor onto the composer!
Does automation only work with subtracks now?
I think that's the most natural way of working, but technically you're free.
Youcould do "Add Track" and drop a parameter on it. In that case you have a 'main' track that's ready for automation.
There are no loop points on automation subtracks (bug or feature?)
You can loop the composition.
-I think there should be a way to tell MULAB how loud the sample preview should be because if you tend to mix with a lot of headroom it can get annoyingly loud depending on the sample. Maybe sample previews could be directly routed to the rack containing the instrument you're loading the samples into.
I know you requested this for a longer time already. My apologies it's not yet in there. But it still is on the wishlist.
How does MULAB Free choose which 8 vst plugs to accept when I add the whole VST folder in one go? I have no way of telling which VST it mightn't like because of incompatibly issues.
You have a UL key right?!
So insert your UL key and the problem is gone ;)

Thanks Marco!

Hi Jo.

Just to let you know I've been testing MuLab 4 in OSX today. After some probs starting the audio engine, I got it to work by loading one of my projects.

So now everything "just works". I like the little keyboard at the top of screen to audition sounds. Right click works well there to change note range.

I like the MIDI drum set too.

Now I have to update some of my older sessions! Looks good so far. Great work!

My UL key doesn't seem to be valid. But that's not a problem. I can stll test all of the plugs bit by bit.

Drag and drop works like a charm! I also couldn't find anything wrong with the MuSynth and Multisample slot yet, thoght maybe the areas could use some more captions so you can see where the master envelope is more quickly. (Maybe; I found it out soon enough without anything of the sort).

I'll try and break the back of the automation system today (or not as the case may be).

I love the 'real' curves.

:)

Hi Bonte,

The key to use was sent by email to UL Users on 13 June 2010. Maybe you still have that?

(I had to search too....)

Make sure you use your latest MuLab Key i.e. the one starting with a square bracket. If you want i can resend it to you.

Some of you were not fully convinced by the colored racks.
How do you like this alternative way of coloring racks: http://www.mutools.com/pics/temp/p20111210.png

Of course the colors are user definable. The colors on this mockup may be a bit too flashy, it's about the idea of coloring the racks only at the top instead of completely.

Edit: Idea: Then the focussed rack could still be colored completely to give that extra accent. (not shown in the picture yet)

That looks awesome to me, really slick and professional. I like the separation of the title and the main panel as well -- feels very natural given the UI conventions of most OS. By the way, I can't put my finger on what's changed (a slight gradient maybe?) but the part rendering looks really nice in M4.

YES!
How about something similar for the tracks as well, maybe the whole sequencer row slightly highlighted. Something.

Yep, that's starting to shine. For highlighting, I'd suggest a slightly muted tone of the colour, so the heading is still picked out?

I'm very convinced by the coloured tracks/racks but it's not a way of life I guess... The new scheme looks OK!

Oh and btw there's a windowing problem you haven't adressed yet (not sure if you didn't see it because you were quoting me on just about everything else:
Bonteburg wrote:-I'm having trouble moving the MU.LAB window across the screen. Most notably it refuses to move up unless I'm really pussyfooting. The same thing applies to windows inside MULAB.
Thanks for resending me the key. I had already found it in the jungle of my email history.

Yes, only coloring for the rackheaders and trackheaders..that should do it( not the tracks coloring!) ..yes
Yes i totally fall in love with this coloring :D

For the tracks you could highlight the Rack/VST icon. that should look slick.
Also there is a difference between the target Rack and the target VST in the rack slot.
You could highlight the Slot ifthe target is just the VST. This would clear the confusion at least for the newcomers and.... us
