Suggestion: Merging the 2 bargain threads in KVR Marketplace into a sub-forum?

Any problems with the site? How can we improve KVR?

Sorry if this has already been discussed...

In the current situation the bargains only thread gets people not only posting bargains, but also leaving comments &, ironically, posting complaints about people not just posting bargains. Plus, then there's the discussion thread which being separate is somewhat disjointed/confusing.

I can't but to keep on feeling that having a sub-forum makes a lot more sense than the current situation. With every bargain getting it's own thread and all related comments being posted in that thread. Any ideas?

Thanks :)

Isn't that what the market place forum is for in the first place?

I think we should go back to having just one bargain thread with comments and everything. It's not perfect but it's the simplest. I understand that the point of the bargain thread is to inform people about bargains, but if any clarification or discussion or whatever is done in a different thread that they may miss then that's really not informative.

Now I have to check both threads to make sure I have all the info needed. For example it's really not information to just announce the newest-oh-so-unbelievable-bargain of all fraud-Crysonic products for $250. People would actually be misinformed if they didn't read the subsequent discussion that such a "bargain" always brings.

And anyway, from what I've seen most people that complain about the comments in the bargain thread also checkout and post in the discussion thread so I don't get what their problem is.
I mean, they're following both threads anyway. Get it? :-o

The problem is that many people are subscribed to the 'bargains' thread in order to receive an email as soon as there is a new sale. If they get an email everytime that someone post a comment or a question they are continuously spammed.

You mean that these people only checkout KVR when they get an alert email about the bargain thread?

Not everyboy read Kvr daily.

Assuming these guys are interested in bargains (since they've subscribed to such a thread) they must visit KVR daily though because the bargain thread gets updated on a daily basis with bargains anyway.

Yeah, it's true. I'm only reproducing their usual complaints. Maybe we could just ask people to post the offers in orange and the comments in white so the offers are easily spotted.

Maybe it would be helpful if there was a dedicated "bargain database", either here on kvraudio or as a dedicated site. I frequently go to http://savygamer.co.uk/ to check for cheap games. Maybe a bit more fleshed out this could be rather useful imo.

Here's a rough idea:
- deals have a title and description, an optional start and expiration date, a URL (e.g. to the web shop), some additional URLs (developer site, reviews, etc), tags, maybe a category (like: s/w gear, h/w gear, services, diverse etc.)
- users can browse by tag, category, ...
- expired deals are hidden
- users can comment and rate deals (~ the gossip thread here)
- users can set up e-mail notifications a) on new deals b) on comments on specific deals c) as a reminder x days before a deal expires
- deals are also published as rss feed
- users should be allowed to post deals, but deals should probably be moderated before publishing

If there's interest for such a system I could whip up a prototype. I can see some nice advantages:
- more overview over which deals are currently available and which end soon
- gossip is focused on a specific deal

Regards,
Andre
